The Band, Orchestra, Combo, and Piano Sales Consultant plays a vital role in bringing that mission to life by helping customers find the instruments, accessories, and resources they need to begin, continue, or grow their musical journey. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Build meaningful relationships with customers by actively listening to their needs, providing personalized recommendations, and helping them select instruments, accessories, and services that best support their musical goals.
Drive sales performance by consistently achieving individual sales goals while contributing to the overall success of the store and team.
Serve as a trusted product expert by maintaining strong knowledge of band, orchestra, combo, piano, and related product categories and using that expertise to educate and assist customers.
Conduct proactive customer outreach through phone calls, email communication, follow-up activities, and other sales initiatives to strengthen customer relationships and generate new business opportunities.
Maintain accurate customer information and utilize sales tools and databases to support follow-up communications, event invitations, and future sales opportunities.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to expand product knowledge, sales skills, and industry expertise.
Support store merchandising efforts by maintaining attractive displays, accurate signage, and product presentation standards consistent with West Music's store experience.
Assist with sales promotions, clinics, special events, and community outreach efforts that strengthen customer engagement and support music education.
Prepare and maintain the sales floor by stocking merchandise, replenishing displays, organizing inventory, and helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Follow established opening and closing procedures and contribute to efficient daily store operations.
Support teammates and other departments as needed while fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.

Education, Experience & Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Band, orchestra, combo, or piano instrument knowledge through playing experience, educational background, teaching experience, or equivalent practical experience.
- Passion for helping customers and creating exceptional service experiences.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with customers, families, educators, and coworkers.
- Strong listening, problem-solving, and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment while balancing multiple priorities.
- Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office programs, and customer management systems.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and other non-traditional retail hours as needed.
- Commitment to supporting West Music's mission, vision, and core values.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in music education, Performance, Business, or a related field.
- Previous retail sales, customer service, or outside sales experience.
- Experience working with school music programs, music educators, or music retail customers.
- Demonstrated success achieving sales goals and building long-term customer relationships.
- Experience with CRM systems, customer databases, or relationship-based sales practices.

Physical Demands

In this role, the employee will frequently stand and walk and occasionally sit. The position requires regular use of hands to handle merchandise, instruments, equipment, and technology. Employees must occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
