Job Description

Manager of Finance

Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer

Position Overview:

Lead financial planning, analysis, and reporting activities for our firm and oversee the day-to-day accounting and payroll operations of our engineering firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including AP/AR, ADP payroll coordination, expense tracking, and month-end close.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy in all financial records.
  • Manage and reconcile project-based financials, including job costing, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure proper project setup, billing, and financial tracking.
  • Produce timely financial reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis with guidance from the Director of Finance.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage bank reconciliations, and track key financial metrics.
  • Support the Director of Finance in implementing internal controls and process improvements.
  • Liaise with external accountants, tax preparers, and vendors as needed.
  • Help manage project-based accounting and job costing related to engineering services.
  • Maintain and improve accounting systems.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • General supervision of all accounting staff.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field
  • CPA designation (complete or in final stages)
  • 5-7 years’ experience within a small to medium-sized organization
  • Solid experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management
  • Working knowledge and experience with ADP Workforce Now payroll software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite, and general accounting software
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Expert knowledge in finance and accounting procedures and regulations
  • Strong analytical and leadership skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and on tight deadlines
