Senior Electrical Engineer - Nuclear

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer – Nuclear based in the United States.

This is a highly specialized engineering role focused on the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems within nuclear power plant environments. You will contribute to critical projects that ensure the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of power generation infrastructure. The role involves working in multidisciplinary project teams to solve complex electrical engineering challenges across both existing and new plant systems. You will be responsible for producing and reviewing detailed engineering calculations, design change packages, and technical documentation that directly support plant operations and upgrades. This position also includes collaboration with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout the full project lifecycle. Accountabilities:
  • Develop and review engineering design change packages for installation, replacement, or upgrade of nuclear plant electrical systems.
  • Perform and validate detailed electrical engineering calculations including AC/DC power studies, short circuit analysis, cable ampacity, voltage drop, breaker coordination, motor starting, and relay settings.
  • Prepare technical specifications and support procurement processes for electrical equipment and materials.
  • Participate in vendor evaluations, bid reviews, and technical clarification processes to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Create and review scoping documents and conceptual designs, including constructability assessments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams including mechanical, civil, structural, and I&C disciplines.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and plant personnel to support design reviews, field verification, and project execution.
  • Support site installation, construction coordination, and field activities during project implementation.
  • Manage technical scope, schedule, and deliverables while supporting project reporting, budgeting, and issue resolution.
  • Track project progress, maintain documentation, and ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical system design within industrial or power generation projects, preferably nuclear.
  • Strong expertise in low and medium voltage power systems including transformers, generators, motors, protective relays, and distribution systems.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, design packages, and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection, coordination studies, and system analysis methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and internal stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage complex engineering deliverables.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to nuclear power facilities (US requirement).
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary project environments and coordinating with external vendors and clients.
  • PE license or MSEE is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with automation, scripting (e.g., Python/MATLAB), or AI-assisted engineering workflows is an advantage.
