What You'll Be Doing...
Under the direction of the Director of Inn Operations, the Bartender & Evening Supervisor is responsible for delivering exceptional beverage service while overseeing the daily operations of The Selvedge Bar. This position leads by example, creating memorable guest experiences through genuine hospitality, expert beverage knowledge, and thoughtful service.
The Bartender & Evening Supervisor works closely with the Guest Services, Culinary, and Housekeeping teams to ensure a seamless guest journey from arrival through departure. In addition to bartending responsibilities, this role oversees nightly closing procedures, maintains operational standards, supports inventory management, and serves as the evening leadership presence for the property.
Guest Experience & Beverage Service
- Deliver warm, personalized, and knowledgeable service to every guest.
- Prepare and serve cocktails, wine, beer, coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages according to established recipes and service standards.
- Curate memorable beverage experiences through thoughtful recommendations and engaging guest interactions.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of spirits, wine, beer, cocktails, coffee, tea, and local producers.
- Anticipate guest needs and resolve concerns with professionalism and discretion.
- Ensure all bar and lounge spaces remain welcoming, clean, and impeccably presented.
Leadership & Supervision
- Lead evening beverage operations while serving as a role model for hospitality and professionalism.
- Support the onboarding, coaching, and development of bar team members.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and positive work environment.
- Ensure adherence to service standards, company policies, and responsible alcohol service practices.
- Communicate operational updates and guest preferences during shift transitions.
Guest Services Collaboration
- Partner closely with Guest Services to coordinate arrivals, departures, special occasions, VIP amenities, and personalized guest experiences.
- Maintain clear communication with Housekeeping and Culinary teams to ensure seamless service across the property.
- Assist with guest requests, concierge recommendations, transportation arrangements, and local experiences as needed.
- Support special events, private dining experiences, and property activations.
- Coordinate and support with guest check-ins that occur after the hours that the front desk liaison has gone home, ensuring a smooth and seamless welcome to the property for the guest by assisting with check-in, luggage, and orientation to The Selvedge and their personal space
Bar Operations
- Maintain bar inventory, organization, cleanliness, and presentation.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate ordering needs to leadership.
- Ensure all garnishes, mixers, syrups, and beverage ingredients are properly prepared and stocked.
- Maintain accurate cash handling and point-of-sale procedures.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service regulations.
Closing Responsibilities
- Lead nightly closing procedures for the bar and guest-facing public spaces.
- Complete end-of-day cash reconciliation and beverage sales reporting.
- Secure all alcohol, equipment, and service areas according to company procedures.
- Verify cleanliness and organization of the bar, lounge, and adjacent guest areas.
- Complete closing checklists and communicate any operational issues to leadership.
- Ensure the property is prepared for the following day's operations.
Operational Excellence
- Embrace a Kaizen mindset by continuously identifying opportunities to improve guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding guests and company operations.
- Demonstrate flexibility in supporting multiple departments as business needs require.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Minimum of two (2) years of bartending experience in a luxury hotel, boutique property, fine dining restaurant, or upscale cocktail bar.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certification required (or ability to obtain within the required timeframe).
- California Food Handler Card required (or ability to obtain within the required timeframe).
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, wine, beer, coffee, tea, and beverage service.
- Passion for genuine hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with point-of-sale systems and cash handling.
- Knowledge of inventory management and beverage cost controls preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of Sonoma County wineries, restaurants, and local attractions preferred.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs require.
