Job Description

Data Engineer, BI & Reporting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Engineer, BI & Reporting based in Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of analytics engineering, BI development, and data operations, with a strong focus on building reliable, scalable reporting systems that power key business decisions. You will design and maintain the data models, dashboards, and reporting infrastructure that enable teams across operations, product, finance, and leadership to access trusted insights. The role is highly hands-on and requires strong ownership of SQL-based data transformations, BI systems, and automated reporting workflows. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into structured datasets, metrics, and dashboards. A key part of the mission is improving data quality, governance, and observability across reporting systems. This is an opportunity to shape how data is consumed across a fast-moving fintech environment while helping drive more automated, AI-assisted reporting processes.

Accountabilities:
  • Build and maintain scalable SQL and dbt data models, including data marts, semantic layers, and analytics-ready datasets.
  • Own production BI dashboards, KPI reports, and recurring reporting workflows across multiple business functions.
  • Translate business requirements into structured metrics, definitions, and reporting logic in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of reporting systems through strong data QA, validation, and monitoring practices.
  • Design and implement automated reporting workflows, reducing manual reporting effort through scalable systems.
  • Support and enhance AI-assisted reporting processes, including data quality checks, KPI generation, and dashboard monitoring.
  • Improve data governance by maintaining documentation, metric definitions, and reporting standards across teams.
  • Troubleshoot data issues proactively and ensure high trust in reporting outputs used for decision-making.
Requirements:
  • 3–6 years of experience in analytics engineering, BI engineering, data engineering, data analytics, or reporting-focused roles.
  • Strong advanced SQL skills and hands-on experience with dbt for building data transformations and models.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining data marts, semantic layers, and reporting datasets in production environments.
  • Experience with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Metabase, Sigma, Hex, Mode, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong background in dashboard development, KPI reporting, and recurring reporting system ownership.
  • Experience implementing data QA processes, monitoring systems, and reporting automation workflows.
  • Strong documentation practices and a structured, detail-oriented approach to data governance.
  • Ability to independently manage reporting infrastructure and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Bonus: experience in fintech, payments, B2B SaaS, CRM/HubSpot data, or revenue operations.
  • Bonus: exposure to AI tools or automation platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, n8n, or workflow orchestration tools.
  • Bonus: experience automating manual reporting processes or building AI-supported analytics workflows.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation with salary and performance-based bonus structure.
  • Fully remote work environment within Canada, aligned with EST time zone.
  • Comprehensive health benefits coverage.
  • Opportunity to work in a fast-growing fintech focused on global payments innovation.
  • High ownership role with direct impact on reporting systems used by leadership and operational teams.
  • Exposure to modern data stack tools, AI-assisted analytics workflows, and automation initiatives.
  • Collaborative cross-functional environment spanning product, engineering, operations, and revenue teams.
