The Digital Communications and Marketing Assistant (Practicum) supports the Literacy Centre of Expertise (LCE) in planning and delivering digital communications and outreach initiatives. Working closely with the LCE team, the practicum student contributes to social media campaigns, creates digital content, and helps promote LCE resources, modules, and professional development opportunities to instructors and the broader sector.
Responsibilities may include creating and scheduling social media content, designing visuals, producing short promotional videos, and capturing photos and videos to support outreach. The student may also assist with email marketing initiatives, including developing newsletters, designing templates, and organizing and expanding mailing lists. This role provides hands-on experience in digital communications, content creation, and marketing within a literacy and adult education context.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Contribute to and help plan social media campaigns
- Create digital content (posts, visuals, short promotional videos)
- Capture photos and videos of learners (for outreach and promotion)
- Support email marketing (campaigns, newsletters)
- Help design a newsletter format/template
- Organize and build a mailing list (e.g., from existing contacts)
- Promote LCE resources, modules, and initiatives
- Work closely with the LCE team to align messaging

Requirements / Qualifications
- Background or studies in communications, marketing, multimedia, or a related field
- Strong written communication skills
- Experience creating digital content (e.g., social media posts, visuals, or video)
- Familiarity with tools such as Canva or similar design platforms
- Basic video editing skills (an asset)
- Ability to work collaboratively and take direction
- Interest in literacy, adult education, or newcomer-serving sectors (an asset)
