This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Software Developer based in United States.
This is an opportunity to build backend software that powers a new generation of electric-vehicle customer experiences.
You will take ownership across the full development lifecycle, from architecture and system design through implementation, testing, and operations.
The role combines hands-on engineering with significant influence over technical direction and long-term technology decisions.
You will work closely with product and UX teams to create scalable, customer-focused digital experiences in a fast-moving startup environment.
Your decisions will have direct visibility and impact, requiring strong technical judgment alongside an understanding of business priorities.
You will also contribute to engineering excellence through code and design reviews, mentoring, and raising development standards across the organization.
This role is well suited to an experienced backend engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, simplifying systems, and building products where individual contributions matter.
- Lead the definition, architecture, design, implementation, testing, and delivery of backend software and supporting systems.
- Develop high-quality, maintainable code and take ownership of system components throughout their lifecycle.
- Design and implement scalable, reliable backend architectures that support evolving digital customer experiences.
- Lead and participate in code reviews and technical design reviews, establishing high engineering standards across the development process.
- Own end-to-end code quality, including system testing, functional testing, integration testing, and operational readiness.
- Apply creativity, sound judgment, and a strong bias toward simplification when solving complex technical and product challenges.
- Collaborate closely with UX, product, and other technical teams to define and deliver innovative customer-focused applications.
- Act as a trusted technical authority, providing guidance on complex engineering issues and helping teams navigate difficult technical trade-offs.
- Evaluate the business impact of technology decisions and balance short-term delivery needs with long-term reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Drive awareness of technical risks, dependencies, and consequences across technical and business stakeholders.
- Contribute to decisions around technology selection, architecture, design patterns, reliability, and system scaling.
- Mentor engineers and support the professional development of individuals and the broader engineering community.
- Help managers and technical leaders identify development opportunities and support career growth across the team.
- Operate effectively in an environment characterized by rapid change, ambiguity, competing priorities, and high ownership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 6 years of professional software development experience.
- At least 6 years of programming experience with one or more modern languages such as TypeScript, Python, Java, or comparable technologies.
- At least 6 years of experience working with cloud services, particularly AWS and/or Azure.
- At least 4 years of experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and existing systems, including architecture patterns, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- At least 4 years of experience across the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, source control, code reviews, build processes, testing, deployment, and operations.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals and the ability to design and deliver production-grade systems.
- Demonstrated ability to make thoughtful technical trade-offs while considering customer needs, business priorities, system reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Strong experience with software quality practices, including automated testing, integration testing, system testing, and code review.
- Proficiency with LLM technologies and modern prompt-engineering patterns, with the ability to incorporate AI-assisted development into an effective engineering workflow.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to simplify complex technical challenges.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working across engineering, product, and UX disciplines.
- Strong technical leadership and mentoring capabilities, with the ability to influence engineering practices beyond your immediate area of responsibility.
- Comfort working independently and making decisions in a fast-paced startup environment where requirements and priorities may evolve quickly.

- Competitive compensation: Base salary range of $135,000–$190,000 USD annually, depending on experience, education, skills, certifications, work location, and other relevant factors.
