Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Automation Technician assists in designing, maintaining, and implementing plant-wide automation for controls, HMI’s, and PLC’s. The Automation Technician will apply a hands-on approach to building applications, programming various controllers, designing systems, and calibrating equipment. This role is responsible for applying database-driven data acquisition and analysis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support in the design and implementation of a variety of control systems for production and prototypes, while expanding and refining current processes.
- Calibrate, maintain, and track field instruments, pumps, motors, sensors, etc.
- Program ladder logic to develop, test, and maintain plant-wide mechanical processes.
- Implement data collection systems for inventory, sensors, and process data to generate template reports for multiple departments.
- Support in the design of inventory, preventative maintenance, recipe, data analysis, and sample entry applications.
- Apply a hands-on approach working with engineers, supervisors, and technicians to finish projects while assisting in multiple projects.
- Diagnose electro/mechanical issues and address them in a safe, timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of PLC experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley (MicroLogix, RSView, ControlLogix), and Automation Direct line of PLCs/HMI preferred.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical processes with a hands-on approach to building automation controls.
- Knowledge of electrical and controls engineering theories and principles.
- Ability to program, troubleshoot, and support PLC ladder logic.
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting for DC and AC circuits, as well as industrial instrumentation (meters, limit switches, sensors, etc.).
- Experience with communication networks (Ethernet, RS485, RS232).
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with quickly changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Able to lift 40 lbs.
- A high degree of trustworthiness, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Team-oriented, with problem-solving skills and effective communication skills.
- Positive, team player attitude.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

None.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires working in a manufacturing facility. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently working near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, and ear protection is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, sit, talk, hear, stand for 6-8 hours, walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift up to 40 pounds, carry, and operate computer software. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
This position includes night, weekend, and holiday work as needed.
