Description:

Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to inspect finished products, stock orders, incoming material, customer returned material, and outgoing loads for conformance to company and customer standards. This position also assists the Quality Supervisor in auditing Quality Processes and Procedures. Opening on 1st shift.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

· Works to supply products and services that meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. Follows the documented quality systems and processes that are continually being improved to satisfy our customers’ needs.

· Inspects incoming buyout material for conformance to established mill standards and company purchase requirements.

· Conducts initial inspection and handling of customer returned material, completes appropriate paperwork for submission to Quality Supervisor

· Propose rework/re-pull of finished or stock material or propose re-loading of loads as applicable.

· Interprets company policies to workers and monitors compliance of company policies and practices as applicable to quality control.

· Accurately document the results of all inspections and testing on appropriate forms, communicate immediate rework needs or quality issues in a timely manner.

· Analyze and interpret blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas, and measuring instruments required.

· Work with sales, purchasing, tool room, and production to resolve Customer Complaints and RMA’s. Facilitate and promote the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.

· Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as , calipers, gauges, protractors, or micrometers.

· Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action to supervisors.

· Conduct and/or coordinate calibration of all test equipment as directed by the Quality Supervisor or Quality Manager.

· Conduct Quality Process audits as directed by the Quality Supervisor or Quality Manager.

· Assist in the development/writing of inspection procedures, protocol, and checklists.

· May inspect work areas to detect unsafe conditions and reports them immediately to the supervisor.

· May assist Quality Manager or other Managers/Supervisors in other duties or special projects as needed.

Requirements:

Critical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

· Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.

· Quality Control Analysis: Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

· Safety and Security; Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.

· Documenting/Recording Information: Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form.

· Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings: Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.

· Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material: Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

· Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates: Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

· Evaluating Information to Determine Compliance with Standards: Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.

· Making Decisions and Solving Problems: Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

· Interacting with Computers: Using computers and computer systems to enter data, or process information.

· Tools: Personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toes boots, etc.), tape measure, overhead crane, and forklift.

· Technology: ERP software, inventory management software, and Microsoft Office software.

Qualifications

· This position requires the individual to have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

Preferences

· Prior forklift experience.

· Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 Standard and its requirements.

· Experience with measuring devices (CMM, micrometers, calipers, height gauge, tape measures)

· Working knowledge of non-conforming reports (NCMRs), corrective action reports (CARs), and supplier corrective action reports (SCARs)

· Assist in the processing and creation of PPAP documents for new product launches to meet customer requirements. All data to be submitted to the Quality Manager for review before submitting to customer.

Supervisory Responsibilities

· This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Working Environment and Conditions

· Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, and be able to communicate verbally and in writing and take direction. The employee is frequently required to be in a stationary position, move about the buildings, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The individual will be performing physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and movement of the whole-body involving things such as lifting, balancing, moving, stooping, and handling of materials. The individual will frequently operate heavy machinery, office equipment, and use eye-hand coordination. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
