Job Description

Mechanical Engineer – Machine Design & Fluid Power Systems

Location: Dallas Industries in Troy, Michigan
Department: Engineering
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Dallas Industries is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team supporting the design and development of custom coil handling, press feeding, metal stamping, and industrial machinery.

This position offers flexibility based on experience. The successful candidate may support individual design projects, independently lead complex engineering projects, or provide technical leadership and guidance to other engineering team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop custom machinery, mechanical systems, assemblies, and components.

  • Create 3D models, assemblies, layouts, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.

  • Design hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems and develop related schematics.

  • Prepare BOMs, assembly drawings, fabrication details, and other engineering documentation.

  • Perform engineering calculations and select appropriate mechanical and fluid power components.

  • Support projects from concept and design through fabrication, assembly, testing, and production.

  • Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues and develop practical engineering solutions.

  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, Controls, Electrical, Sales, Service, and Project Management.

  • Participate in design reviews, project planning, customer discussions, and technical problem solving.

  • Support estimates, proposals, project scopes, budgets, and schedules as appropriate.

  • Work with customers and suppliers on technical requirements and component selection.

  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and team members as appropriate.

  • Support installation, commissioning, field service, and customer troubleshooting when needed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, machine design, or a related manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or lubrication systems preferred.

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.

  • Experience with DraftSight, AutoCAD, or similar 2D drafting software preferred.

  • Experience with custom machinery, automation, coil handling, press feeding, metal stamping, or engineered-to-order equipment is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing, machining, fabrication, and assembly.

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
