Overview

Lutron Electronics is looking for an Electrical Engineering Technical Manager for our Austin, Texas Engineering office. In this role, you will be a technical expert on a cross-functional team that conceives, designs, and delivers innovative, high-quality products that maintain and expand our market position as the world leader in automated lighting and shades.

The Electrical Engineering Technical Manager is a senior technical leadership role responsible for defining, guiding, and governing the electrical architecture of complex products across the company’s portfolio. This individual serves as the highest-level electrical engineering authority, ensuring that designs are robust, scalable, manufacturable, and aligned with business, quality, and regulatory objectives.



Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Provide direct supervision to develop senior and junior electrical engineers.
  • In charge of enforcing technical rigor, documentation, and design excellence.

Architecture & Technical Ownership

  • Define the electrical architecture for new and existing products, from concept through production.
  • Translate system-level requirements into electrical design strategies and product design roadmaps.
  • Evaluate trade-offs between performance, cost, manufacturability, reliability, and schedule.
  • Establish design standards, best practices, and architectural principles across electrical systems.

Hands-On Technical Execution & Quality

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance during concept development, detailed design, prototyping, verification, and validation.
  • Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and cost at scale.
  • Support root-cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues in development and production.

Cross-Functional & External Collaboration

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, software, optical, LED packaging, industrial design, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and regulatory teams to ensure electrical designs meet all functional, aesthetic, and compliance requirements.
  • Support customer, partner, and supplier technical discussions as an electrical subject-matter expert.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, consultants, and industry experts on design feasibility and process selection

Technical Roadmap

  • Contribute to long-term technology roadmaps and R&D strategy.
  • Identify cost reduction and product improvement opportunities.


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electronics Engineering (master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.00 GPA (or equivalent) for all degrees earned.
  • 12+ years of engineering experience in product development.
  • Expertise in power electronics, analog circuits, and physics fundamentals.
  • Advanced proficiency with CAD and PLM tools.
  • Curiosity and solution-focused mindset.
  • First principles thinker.
  • You are authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require Lutron to sponsor you for any work visa, such as an H-1B, either immediately or at any time in the future. Lutron does not offer work visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred

  • Excellent technical communication skills.
  • Experience with high-volume consumer or commercial products.
  • RF system experience.
  • Embedded system experience.
