Description:
The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for supporting environmental compliance programs at the Gold Bar Mine site. This position assists in maintaining compliance with environmental permits and applicable federal, state, and local regulations while promoting responsible environmental stewardship throughout the operation.
Working under the direction of the Environmental Manager, the Environmental Coordinator assists with environmental monitoring, permitting, regulatory reporting, inspections, and data management to help ensure environmentally responsible and sustainable mining operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparing and maintaining environmental permit applications, renewals, and compliance documentation.
- Support environmental compliance programs in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist in tracking permit requirements, reporting deadlines, licensing, and regulatory fees.
- Maintain environmental records and databases, including MonitorPro and other compliance tracking systems.
- Collect, organize, and maintain environmental data required for regulatory reporting, including the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI).
- Maintain the site's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database.
- Assist in developing and implementing procedures for monitoring biological resources, hazardous waste, air quality, water quality, and other environmental compliance programs.
Environmental Monitoring and Reporting:
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly environmental monitoring and sampling activities as required by permits and regulatory requirements.
- Collect, record, and verify environmental monitoring data.
- Maintain accurate environmental records and assist with preparation of compliance reports.
- Report environmental incidents, spills, or non-compliance concerns to the Environmental Manager.
- Assist with environmental inspections, internal audits, and regulatory compliance reviews.
Stakeholder and Regulatory Relations:
- Assist with communications and coordination with regulatory agencies as directed by the Environmental Manager.
- Support regulatory inspections by preparing documentation and accompanying inspectors when needed.
- Assist in providing environmental awareness and compliance training to employees.
Site Environmental Oversight:
- Conduct routine site inspections to verify compliance with environmental permits, company procedures, and best management practices.
- Conduct weekly environmental monitoring, sampling, and reporting activities at the Tonkin Springs Care and Maintenance site.
- Identify potential environmental concerns and communicate findings to the Environmental Manager.
Administration and Reporting:
- Participate in daily operational meetings and weekly safety meetings.
- Complete routine environmental documentation, reporting, and administrative tasks.
- Assist with tracking environmental compliance activities and maintaining organized records.
- Support environmental budgeting by maintaining records of compliance-related expenses when requested.
Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibilities:
- Comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations and company policies.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, environmental standards, and site operational requirements.
- Support environmental awareness initiatives and continuous improvement in environmental performance.
Cross-Functional Relationships:
- Environmental Manager: Receive directions and provide support for environmental compliance activities.
- Site Departments: Coordinate environmental monitoring, inspections, and compliance activities with operations, maintenance, geology, safety, and other departments.
- Support communications and provide requested documentation as directed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain awareness of environmental regulations applicable to mining operations.
- Recommend improvements to environmental monitoring and compliance processes.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance environmental performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Earth Sciences, or related field preferred.
- Preferred minimum 2+ years of environmental compliance experience, preferably in mining or a similar industrial environment, but not required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations including NEPA, RCRA, and other federal and state requirements.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management systems preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint and environmental data management systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective report writing and documentation abilities.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Climbing ladders and stairs and walking over uneven ground in an active mining environment.
- Moderate lifting may be required.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, standing, and sitting for extended periods.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and dust.
- Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working in operational area.
- Required to wear a respirator.
