COMPENSATION & LOCATION

The compensation range for this position is $60,000-$65,000 per year.

The position is a hybrid schedule at our Elk Grove Village location.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Supervisor, Access Operations is responsible for front-line leadership of access specialists or
technicians performing pharmacy benefit prior authorization, appeal, payer follow-up, and documentation-related activities for rare disease therapies. This role manages daily work distribution, monitors individual performance, coaches team members, validates adherence to payer and SOP requirements, and escalates complex access barriers to the Manager. The Supervisor helps ensure timely, accurate, and compliant completion of access work while supporting a high-quality employee and patient access experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Daily Team Supervision: Assign and prioritize daily work, monitor queues, support schedule adherence, review productivity, and reinforce expectations.
  • PA, Appeal & Payer Follow-Up Support: Guide staff on payer requirements, documentation needs, PA submission readiness, appeal packet preparation, and follow-up cadence
  • Coaching, Training & Performance Feedback: Provide real-time coaching, identify training gaps, support onboarding, and reinforce quality expectations.
  • Quality & Compliance Monitoring: Review work for completeness, accuracy, SOP adherence, payer rule compliance, documentation standards, and HIPAA compliance
  • Escalation & Communication: Communicate access barriers, payer issues, documentation gaps, staffing concerns, and process improvement opportunities

KPIs, QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:

Key Performance Indicators
• Individual and team queue aging for PA, appeal, payer follow-up, and
documentation work
• Daily productivity, schedule adherence, first-pass accuracy, and escalation
timeliness
• Training completion, coaching documentation, and corrective action follow through

Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree
preferred.
• 3+ years of patient access, specialty pharmacy, prior authorization, appeals,
reimbursement, payer follow-up, or healthcare operations experience.
• 1+ year of lead, senior specialist, trainer, quality, or supervisory experience
in a high-volume operational environment.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in rare disease, specialty pharmacy, limited distribution drugs,
hub services, or manufacturer access programs.
• Experience with pharmacy benefit PA and appeals for high-cost or complex
therapies.
• Experience using payer portals, case management systems, ePA tools, call
center systems, or productivity dashboards.

Skills & Competencies
• Strong front-line coaching, organization, and follow-through skills
• Practical knowledge of PA, appeal, payer follow-up, and documentation
workflows
• Ability to monitor queues, identify aging risks, and escalate barriers promptly
