Job Description

Job Title: Teacher Orton-Gillingham Specialist

School Year: 2026–2027

Job Responsibilities

The Teacher Orton-Gillingham Specialist reports to the Principal and provides specialized, structured literacy instruction using Orton-Gillingham principles and practices.

  • Plan and deliver individualized and small-group structured literacy instruction.
  • Apply Orton-Gillingham methodology and multisensory instructional strategies to support students with language-based learning needs.
  • Develop and adapt lessons based on student needs, learning profiles, and progress.
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Implement student IEP goals, accommodations, and instructional recommendations.
  • Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and administrators to support student learning.
  • Communicate with parents and participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, professional development, and other school activities as required.
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Support the mission, philosophy, policies, and educational goals of The Newgrange School.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Administration.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid New Jersey instructional certificate or Statement of Eligibility appropriate to the position.
  • Orton-Gillingham training and/or certification from a recognized Orton-Gillingham organization preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with structured literacy and multisensory instructional practices.
  • Experience working with students with dyslexia and/or language-based learning differences preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • NJDOE-required fingerprinting and criminal history clearance.
  • Other qualifications as determined appropriate by the Principal and/or Executive Director.
