Job Description

Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a full-time Kauhale Manager in Honolulu, Oahu to oversee daily operations at our Iwilei supportive housing community. This on-site leadership role supports adults experiencing mental health and housing challenges through recovery-oriented housing, behavioral health support, and community-based care.

In this role, you will lead day-to-day housing operations, supervise staff, and help residents strengthen stability, wellness, and independence in a safe and respectful environment. Free clinical supervision hours are available for eligible employees pursuing LCSW licensure. This role is ideal for emerging behavioral health leaders who want to combine supportive housing, recovery-oriented care, and clinical growth in a mission-driven environment.


What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

    Housing Operations: Oversee intakes, occupancy, rent collection, and unit inspectionsResident Support: Coordinate behavioral health, housing, and community-based servicesTeam Leadership: Supervise, coach, and support Kauhale Specialists and daily workflowsSafety & Crisis Response: Maintain safety protocols and respond to resident or facility emergenciesRecovery-Oriented Support: Encourage stability, wellness, and person-centered engagementCommunity Collaboration: Partner with internal teams, HMIS/CES providers, and community agenciesDocumentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate records and support program compliance standardsFacility Coordination: Monitor maintenance needs and support a clean, stable living environment


Kauhale Manager Qualifications

    Minimum: Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) requiredPreferred: Three (3)+ years of experience in behavioral health, supportive housing, case management, or community mental healthSkills: Strong leadership, communication, crisis intervention, organization, and relationship-building skillsCertifications: TB clearance, CPR, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)Fit for the Role: Comfortable working in a community-based supportive housing environment serving adults experiencing mental health and housing challenges

Requirements & Work Conditions

    Free clinical supervision hours available for eligible employees pursuing LCSW licensureAbility to pass a criminal background check and alcohol/drug screeningAbility to lift up to 25 lbs and respond to emergencies in a residential settingAbility to work on-site and support after-hours or urgent facility needs when necessary
