Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports both administrative and clinical functions to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for managing front office duties such as patient intake, scheduling, and insurance verification, as well as back office responsibilities including patient care, assisting providers, and performing basic clinical procedures.
Key ResponsibilitiesFront Office (Administrative)- Greet and check in patients in a professional and friendly manner
- Verify insurance eligibility and collect co-pays
- Schedule, confirm, and reschedule appointments
- Maintain accurate patient records in EMR
- Answer phones and respond to patient inquiries
- Manage referrals, prior authorizations, and medical records requests
- Perform general administrative duties (faxing, scanning, filing)
- Room patients and obtain vital signs
- Document chief complaints and medical history
- Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during visits
- Perform basic clinical tasks such as:
- EKGs
- Specimen collection (urine, swabs, etc.)
- Point-of-care testing (e.g., COVID, flu, strep)
- Administer injections (if certified)
- Clean and stock exam rooms; maintain infection control standards
- Provide patient education and discharge instructions
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience
- Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred:
- 1+ year of experience in urgent care, primary care, or outpatient setting
- Experience with EMR systems (e.g., Epic, eClinicalWorks)
- Phlebotomy and injection experience
- Knowledge of insurance verification and authorization processes
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Team-oriented with a patient-first mindset
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Fast-paced outpatient clinic setting
- Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting
- May require evenings, weekends, or holiday shifts
