JOB TITLE: Lead Pharmacist

DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy

REPORTS TO: Director of Pharmacy

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

LOCATION: Paterson or Alcott


POSITION SUMMARY:

Direct, develop, implement and evaluate specific program areas within the pharmacies including but not limited to lead pharmacists, dispense medication, drugs and other pharmaceuticals as needed, monitor daily activities, resolve personnel and patient problems, provide recommendations regarding performance evaluations of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and assist in hiring and discipline.


Performs staff pharmacist duties a minimum 85% of time and serves as Pharmacist-in-Charge. Reports to Director of Pharmacy.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs staff pharmacist duties as required.
  • Develop, review, and update policies and procedures of assigned program area(s).
  • Direct the operation of the assigned program area(s), including provide oversight of program activities.
  • Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of pharmacists and other staff, and provide performance feedback to Director of Pharmacy.
  • Participate in the training, development and education of pharmacists.
  • Assures that all pharmacy staff are appropriately trained to perform necessary functions.
  • Collaborate with Director of Pharmacy to develop and document goals and performance, and to ensure pharmacy staff competency assessment occurs in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that licensed pharmacists meet all licensure requirements including continuing education and recertification.
  • Develop or modify work plans and work priorities to ensure work schedules provide adequate staff coverage.
  • Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions.
  • Assists in ensuring that the pharmacies are stocked with essential drugs and pharmaceuticals.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities for the assigned program area(s).
  • Monitors, analysis and reports on established performance metrics on a regular basis.
  • Ensures compliance with all licensure and governing body requirements including but not limited to: Board of Pharmacy, Office of Pharmacy Affairs (including 340B Drug Pricing Program), and Drug Enforcement Agency.
  • Ensures compliance with all contractual requirements of payers including but not limited to: Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and all federal, state, and local government contracts.
  • Ensures compliance with wholesale purchasing agreement(s) and maintains close contact with vendor(s) for ordering, inventory and billing purposes.
  • Provides regular consultation for patients and staff regarding medication and assures that all other dispensing pharmacists provide regular consultation for patients and staff.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings and other meetings as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an intermediate level of knowledge of using the internet, utilizing Excel spreadsheet software, and Microsoft Word software. Must have intermediate level of knowledge of utilizing Outlook software to manage schedules and communicate through the use of email to various recipients.


Other Qualifications

Must have adequate transportation to visit the five sites of the Family Health Center. Prefer bilingual speaking both English and Spanish.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy required, or Pharm. D. preferred from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure includes controlled substance license to practice pharmacy in Michigan.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant pharmacy leadership and management experience.
  • Background and knowledge of pharmaceutics and their drugs and interactions.
  • Familiarity with the 340b drug pricing program preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail, managerial and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicity, ages, and sexual orientation in a multicultural environment
