Job Description

Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE&I) is looking for a Distribution Line Engineer to join our growing Engineering team!

Welty Energy, an affiliate of Welty Enterprises, is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, distribution engineering, substation engineering, and construction oversight on transmission, substation, and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV.

Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, and working nationally, Welty Energy currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities across the Midwest and Northeast regions of the United States.

As a Distribution Line Engineer, you will support the design and execution of electric utility distribution projects by developing construction-ready engineering designs, collaborating with project teams and clients, and ensuring all work complies with applicable codes and client standards. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, client interaction, and contributing to reliable utility infrastructure.

Location:
While this position may be remote, candidates must be based in approved locations to support required travel to project sites and client meetings.

As a Distribution Line Engineer, you will:
  • Prepare construction plan documents for distribution line projects.
  • Perform structural analysis and modeling of wood, steel, concrete, and ductile iron utility poles.
  • Develop engineering designs in accordance with client standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify design accuracy and ensure compliance with all applicable engineering standards.
  • Provide technical support and engineering expertise to the Project Management team.
  • Represent Welty Energy with professionalism while delivering exceptional client service.
  • Consult on specialized projects where technical expertise is required.
  • Conduct field site visits as needed to support engineering and project execution.
  • Interface with client engineering teams and internal project managers to provide timely project updates.
  • Practice safe work habits and comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to foster a productive, supportive work environment.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with Engineering Specialists and Technicians.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and engineering partners.
  • Submit accurate weekly timesheets and project-related expenses.
What We Require:Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 4–8 years of experience in electric utility distribution line engineering.
  • Ability to obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with the intent to pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Experience preparing construction drawings and engineering design packages.
  • Strong understanding of utility distribution design standards and applicable engineering codes.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience working directly with electric utility clients.

Travel
