POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Master’s Degree in Nursing, Epidemiology, Public Health, or in related field and 6 months experience as an Infection Control Coordinator, Infection Prevention, or in a related occupation.

Skills

  • Understanding of nosocomial infection definitions, chart review, functional understanding of sterilization, disinfection and sanitation.
  • Basic understanding and use of microbiology and epidemiology principles, statistical presentation, outbreak investigation techniques, and computer use.
  • Adult teaching techniques, clear oral and written communication skills, project management, and policy management.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Blood borne Pathogen Standards, OSHA Tuberculosis.
  • Protection, Title 22, State and Federal laws related to communicable disease, and DNV Standards.
  • Ability to organize and work effectively and independently.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducted daily multidisciplinary round to monitor compliance with infection prevention practices (proper use and maintenance of patient care devices). Utilized persuasive engagement skills to collaborate with Infectious disease expert, nursing leaders, patient safety and laboratory staff in conducing root cause analysis. Ensured proper implementation of standard precautions such as proper use of PPEs, improved adherence to isolation precaution practices. Develop and implement compelling hand hygiene campaigns which increases hand hygiene compliance rates in the hospital. Assessed the educational needs of healthcare workers and patients pertaining to infection prevention, apply the principle of adult learning to deliver educational sessions accordingly. Reviewed patient history before admission and suggest appropriate precautions in a timely manner. Support quality and patient safety by participating in audits, chart reviews and data collection to promote the culture of patient safety initiatives. Gather, review and analyze data for entry into required databases including, CDC (NHSN), local and state Department of Health. Ensure that the facility is in compliance with current CDC, CMS, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection control or standard/ universal precautions. Collects infection control data from departments, performs analysis and provides reports and recommendations for improvement to key stakeholders. Provides education to staff on implementation of infection control practices. Investigate and report incidents related to infection control as required by hospital policy and federal and state regulation. Assists in recommending appropriate supplies required for infection risk related safety practices. Coordinate infection and control activities applying Epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, including risk stratification, and design and evaluate prevention and control strategies.
