POSITION SUMMARY

The Transit Operator (Non-CDL) safely operates Jaunt vehicles while providing reliable, courteous, and customer-focused transportation services throughout Central Virginia. This position is responsible for transporting passengers in accordance with established routes and schedules, assisting passengers as needed, performing required vehicle inspections, and complying with all applicable safety regulations and organizational policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Transportation Services
- Safely operate Jaunt vehicles in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws, organizational policies, and defensive driving practices.
- Provide safe, timely, and reliable transportation services while maintaining assigned routes and schedules.
- Adapt to changing traffic conditions, weather, construction, detours, and other operational challenges.
- Operate vehicles in a manner that promotes passenger comfort, safety, and confidence.
Customer Service
- Deliver courteous, professional, and respectful service to passengers and the public.
- Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, securement of mobility devices, packages, and other reasonable transportation needs.
- Communicate clearly with passengers regarding schedules, stops, delays, and service information.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all passengers.
Vehicle Safety and Compliance
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical defects or safety concerns.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report maintenance issues in accordance with organizational procedures.
- Comply with all DOT, FTA, ADA, and organizational safety requirements.
- Participate in required safety meetings, training, and certification programs.
Communication and Documentation
- Maintain effective communication with dispatch, supervisors, and other operational staff.
- Report accidents, incidents, mechanical issues, passenger concerns, and service disruptions promptly.
- Complete required reports, inspections, manifests, and other operational documentation accurately and on time.
Operational Support
- Demonstrate flexibility in work assignments, schedules, weekends, holidays, and emergency operations as needed.
- Support organizational initiatives and special assignments as directed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- 2 years of driving experience preferred.
- Valid Virginia driver's license.
- Driving record that meets Jaunt's insurance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating passenger vans, cutaway vehicles, or other commercial vehicles.
- CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens certification, or the ability to obtain required certifications within three (3) months of employment.
- Experience working with older adults and individuals with disabilities.
- Experience providing customer service in a public-facing environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of safe driving practices and applicable traffic laws.
- Knowledge of ADA requirements and passenger assistance techniques.
- Ability to safely operate passenger transportation vehicles in varying traffic and weather conditions.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during emergencies and difficult situations.
- Ability to complete required documentation accurately.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with supervisors and dispatch.
- Ability to safely assist passengers and operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement equipment.
Sign-on bonus of $1,500, paid as follows:
- $750 after successful completion of 3 months of employment
- $750 after successful completion of 9 months of employment
To qualify for sign-on bonus payments, employees must:
- Remain actively employed through each payout date
- Maintain satisfactory job performance and attendance
- Be in good standing with the company at the time of payout

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen and meeting Jaunt's driving record standards for insurance eligibility. Continued employment is contingent upon compliance with Jaunt's Substance Abuse Policy and maintaining a driving record that meets the organization's insurance requirements.
As a public transportation provider, Jaunt employees regularly interact with passengers of all abilities.
