Systems Administrator in Fort Meade, Maryland at VAE INC

VAE, Inc. is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to support a DISA program. This role is responsible for the day-to-day administration of Linux, Windows Server, and Solaris systems, hypervisor and virtualization environments, and identity and access management infrastructure. The successful candidate will bring deep operational knowledge across server operating systems and apply methodical, root-cause troubleshooting to resolve complex issues spanning interdependent hardware and software systems.

• Administer and maintain Linux and/or Microsoft Windows Server environments.
• Manage hypervisor and virtualization platforms, including VMware and Teradici VDI.
• Create Active Directory accounts, grant permissions, and perform ongoing AD maintenance.
• Configure and maintain Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and modern multi-factor authentication structures.
• Administer Windows, Linux, and Solaris servers, applying deep expertise in at least one platform.
• Apply methodical root-cause analysis to resolve complex issues across interdependent hardware and software systems.
• Support identity and access management processes, including provisioning, deprovisioning, and periodic access reviews.
• Perform routine patching, hardening, and maintenance across managed systems.
• Document system configurations and standard operating procedures.

• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• DoD 8570 baseline certification (e.g., Security+ or equivalent).
• Ability to work in Fort Meade, MD 5 days a week. No opportunities for telework.
• Deep operational knowledge of Linux ecosystems and/or Microsoft Windows Server.
• Experience managing hypervisors such as VMware or Teradici VDI.
• Proficiency with Active Directory, Group Policies (GPO), and modern multi-factor authentication structures.
• Experience creating Active Directory accounts, granting permissions, and performing ongoing maintenance.
• Windows, Linux, and Solaris server experience, with expertise in at least one.
• Demonstrated methodical root-cause analysis when tracking down complex bugs across interdependent hardware and software systems.

• Scripting/automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
• Experience administering Solaris in a production enterprise environment.
• Experience in DoD or federal systems administration.
