Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Banquets Houseman is responsible for the setup, breakdown, cleaning, and maintenance of banquet rooms, meeting spaces, and event areas to ensure all functions are prepared and maintained according to hotel and Sheraton standards.
This position works closely with the Banquets Manager, Banquet Captain, Banquet Servers, and other Food & Beverage team members to ensure events are executed efficiently and professionally. The Banquets Houseman plays an important role in creating a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for guests while providing excellent internal and external service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Set up and break down banquet rooms, meeting rooms, ballrooms, and event spaces according to event orders, diagrams, and supervisor instructions.
-Move and arrange tables, chairs, staging, dance floors, podiums, risers, equipment, and other banquet supplies.
-Ensure rooms are set according to the appropriate setup style, including rounds, classroom, theater, U-shape, conference, reception, and other configurations.
-Assist with setup and breakdown of weddings, meetings, conferences, social events, corporate functions, and other hotel events.
-Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked banquet storage areas.
-Transport banquet equipment and supplies safely using carts and other appropriate equipment.
-Assist with setting up and maintaining buffets, beverage stations, action stations, bars, and other event areas as directed.
-Replenish water, glassware, ice, supplies, and other items as needed during events.
-Assist banquet servers and captains with clearing tables, removing trash, transporting dishes, and maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of function spaces.
-Maintain cleanliness of meeting rooms, ballrooms, hallways, service areas, and other banquet-related spaces throughout the shift.
-Promptly remove trash, used equipment, and other items from guest-facing areas.
-Assist with moving food, beverage, and banquet equipment between the kitchen, storage areas, and function rooms.
-Ensure all banquet equipment is returned to the appropriate storage location following each event.
-Report damaged, missing, or unsafe equipment to the Banquets Manager or Supervisor.
-Follow proper procedures for the safe handling, storage, and transportation of banquet equipment.
-Assist with room changes and quick turnarounds between events.
-Monitor function rooms throughout events and address housekeeping or setup needs promptly.
-Maintain a professional appearance and courteous demeanor when interacting with guests.
-Respond to guest requests when appropriate and direct guests to the appropriate department or manager when additional assistance is needed.
-Follow all hotel, Sheraton, Marriott, and department policies and procedures.
Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and OSHA requirements.
-Maintain proper attendance and punctuality in accordance with hotel standards.
-Communicate effectively with supervisors and fellow associates regarding event needs, changes, and concerns.
-Assist other departments and banquet team members as needed to ensure successful event execution.
-Perform other reasonable job duties as assigned by management.
GUEST SERVICE EXPECTATIONS
The Banquets Houseman is a guest-facing representative of the Sheraton Valley Forge and is expected to:
-Greet guests and respond to requests in a friendly and professional manner.
-Maintain a positive, helpful, and service-oriented attitude.
-Protect guest privacy and demonstrate discretion during events.
-Maintain clean and organized guest-facing areas.
-Anticipate the needs of guests and the banquet team whenever possible.
-Address concerns promptly and notify management when assistance is required.
-Represent the Sheraton brand and hotel professionally at all times.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
-This position requires extensive standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting throughout the shift.
-Work is performed primarily in banquet rooms, meeting spaces, storage areas, kitchens, service corridors, and other hotel areas.
-Work may involve exposure to varying temperatures, including hot kitchens, refrigerated areas, and outdoor event spaces.
-Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on hotel business and event schedules.
-The position requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, particularly during event setup and breakdown.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
-Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
-Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and climb stairs.
-Ability to lift and carry banquet equipment and supplies.
-Ability to safely move tables, chairs, staging, carts, and other equipment.
-Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance, consistent with safe lifting practices and hotel requirements.
-Ability to work as part of a team when moving heavy or oversized equipment.
-Ability to safely operate or maneuver banquet carts and other equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
-High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
-Previous hotel, banquet, restaurant, catering, or hospitality experience preferred but not required.
-Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
-Positive attitude and willingness to assist others.
-Ability to communicate effectively with guests, supervisors, and coworkers.
-Ability to work a flexible schedule based on hotel events and business needs.
Preferred:
-Previous banquet or event setup experience.
-Knowledge of common banquet room setup styles.
-Experience working in a hotel or full-service hospitality environment.

-Successful performance in this position includes:

-Events are maintained in a clean, organized, and guest-ready condition.
-Equipment is handled safely and returned to its proper location.
