Job Description
Position Summary
The Barista Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hotel's coffee shop or café while delivering exceptional guest experiences that reflect Marriott International's commitment to service excellence. This role supervises Baristas, ensures adherence to Marriott and Sheraton brand standards, maintains product quality and food safety, and supports revenue generation through efficient operations and guest engagement.
The Barista Supervisor leads by example, creating a welcoming environment where guests receive prompt, personalized, and professional service while ensuring operational excellence and compliance with all company policies.
Essential Job Functions
-Guest Experience & Marriott Brand Standards
-Deliver exceptional guest service in accordance with Marriott's "Spirit to Serve" philosophy.
-Create memorable guest interactions through genuine hospitality and personalized service.
-Ensure all team members greet guests warmly and professionally.
-Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally, escalating issues when appropriate.
-Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting café environment at all times.
-Ensure compliance with Marriott Brand Standards, Sheraton standards, and local health regulations.
-Promote Marriott Bonvoy benefits when appropriate.
Café Operations
-Supervise daily opening, operating, and closing procedures.
-Ensure beverages and food items are prepared accurately and consistently.
-Monitor coffee quality, freshness, presentation, and portion control.
-Verify recipes and beverage standards are followed.
-Maintain inventory of coffee, syrups, milk, pastries, grab-and-go items, paper goods, and supplies.
-Complete inventory counts and assist with ordering.
-Monitor waste and implement cost-control measures.
-Ensure all equipment is clean, maintained, and operating properly.
-Report maintenance issues promptly.
Team Leadership
-Supervise Baristas during assigned shifts.
-Assign daily responsibilities and ensure completion.
-Train new team members on:
-Marriott service standards
-Beverage preparation
-POS procedures
-Cash handling
-Food safety
-Cleaning procedures
-Coach employees to improve performance and guest service.
-Assist with scheduling based on business demands.
-Monitor attendance, punctuality, and productivity.
-Participate in performance evaluations and disciplinary discussions as directed.
Food Safety & Sanitation
Ensure compliance with:
-Marriott Food Safety Standards
-HACCP guidelines
-Local Health Department regulations
-ServSafe principles
-Monitor food temperatures and product dating.
-Ensure proper rotation using FIFO.
-Maintain sanitation logs.
-Verify daily cleaning checklists are completed.
-Ensure proper handwashing and personal hygiene standards.
Cash Handling & Financial Responsibilities
-Perform opening and closing cash procedures.
-Reconcile cash drawers accurately.
-Ensure all transactions are processed correctly.
-Minimize cash variances.
-Monitor discounts, voids, and complimentary transactions.
-Assist with labor management by monitoring staffing levels.
Quality Assurance
-Conduct routine inspections of:
-Beverage quality
-Product presentation
-Café cleanliness
-Uniform compliance
-Equipment condition
-Ensure all menu items are consistently prepared according to standards.
-Support initiatives to improve guest satisfaction scores.
Safety & Security
-Follow all company safety policies.
-Ensure safe operation of espresso machines, grinders, ovens, and kitchen equipment.
-Report accidents and unsafe conditions immediately.
-Maintain emergency preparedness procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities
-Directly supervises Baristas.
-Provides coaching and training.
-Assists with scheduling.
-Monitors productivity.
-Supports performance management.
-Promotes teamwork and positive employee engagement.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum one year of café, coffee shop, restaurant, or hospitality experience.
Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Ability to work weekends and early morning shifts.
Strong customer service skills.
Cash handling experience.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic computer and POS system knowledge.
Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred
Marriott hotel experience.
Specialty coffee knowledge.
ServSafe Food Handler or Manager Certification.
Barista certification.
Hospitality supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements
Stand and walk for extended periods.
Lift up to 40 pounds.
Frequently bend, stoop, reach, and kneel.
Operate espresso machines and café equipment.
Work in hot, cold, and fast-paced environments.
