Job Description

Product Engineer Java Spring Boot

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Product Engineer Java Spring Boot based in United States.

This is a fully remote software engineering opportunity focused on building and continuously improving customer-facing products and distributed applications.
You’ll work across the full stack, with a strong emphasis on Java, Spring Boot, APIs, microservices, and cloud-based systems.
The role combines hands-on development with architectural thinking, giving you ownership across the software lifecycle from design through production support.
You’ll contribute to products using modern engineering practices including test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
Working within an Agile and collaborative environment, you’ll help shape technical decisions and select simple, effective solutions that meet customer needs.
You’ll also tackle complex challenges involving security, messaging, databases, scalability, and application performance.
This role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, learning continuously, and building reliable software at scale.

Accountabilities:
  • Participate in iteration planning, backlog refinement, and daily team ceremonies to establish a shared understanding of product priorities, user stories, and technical work.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support software products across backend services, APIs, and frontend applications as required.
  • Build and maintain REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot, including API documentation, versioning, testing, service discovery, and lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to design scalable applications and distributed systems using appropriate architectural patterns.
  • Develop and support microservices and cloud-based applications designed for reliability, scalability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Implement secure applications and APIs using authentication, authorization, OAuth, OpenID, SAML, OWASP principles, and other established security practices.
  • Work with databases and messaging technologies such as MongoDB, caching solutions, and Kafka to support reliable, high-volume applications.
  • Establish and maintain CI/CD and continuous deployment pipelines using tools such as Git, Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, Artifactory, and related technologies.
  • Practice test-driven development, paired programming, unit testing, and front-to-back test coverage to maintain high standards of software quality.
  • Monitor and support applications in user environments, troubleshoot technical and performance issues, and contribute to ongoing product improvements.
  • Participate in retrospectives and knowledge-sharing activities, helping improve engineering practices and the collective technical capabilities of the team.
  • Contribute to technical decision-making by evaluating requirements and selecting the simplest appropriate technology and design to meet customer and product needs.
Requirements:
  • 2–10 years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated hands-on experience building and supporting production applications.
  • Strong experience developing REST APIs with Java and Spring Boot, including API documentation through Swagger, REST Docs, or OpenAPI specifications.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems, cloud applications, and microservices architectures, with the ability to contribute to architectural and technical design decisions.
  • Solid understanding of web and API security, including authentication, authorization, OAuth, OpenID, SAML, and OWASP principles.
  • Hands-on backend development experience with databases and supporting technologies such as MongoDB, caching, and Kafka messaging.
  • Experience with Git and software build, packaging, artifact management, and CI tools such as Maven, Gradle, npm, Artifactory, Jenkins, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments, including paired programming or collaborative engineering models.
  • Strong understanding of test-driven development and experience writing unit and automated tests that provide comprehensive application coverage.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities, including the capacity to investigate application performance issues and identify practical solutions.
  • Experience with Python is a plus.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute effectively to technical discussions and cross-functional team environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience. Candidates without a degree should have additional specialized training and/or progressively responsible technology experience equivalent to the required education.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote work environment within the United States.
  • Competitive annual compensation of $85,000–$145,075, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive technology setup for remote work, including a laptop, monitors, headset, keyboard, and mouse.
  • Monthly connectivity reimbursement for eligible work-from-home employees.
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale distributed systems, cloud applications, APIs, and modern software architectures.
  • Collaborative Agile environment with opportunities for paired programming, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
  • Exposure to modern engineering practices including test-driven development, CI/CD, and continuous deployment.
  • Opportunities to contribute to technical decisions, product evolution, and customer-focused software solutions.
  • No supervisory responsibilities, allowing you to focus on hands-on engineering and technical contribution.
  • Employment is subject to a background investigation.
  • Employment-based visa sponsorship is generally not available for this position.
