About the Role:
The Certified Diesel Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of heavy diesel-powered equipment used in oil and gas industries. This position involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related systems to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. The mechanic will work closely with operations teams to perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs in challenging environments. A key outcome of this role is to uphold equipment reliability and compliance with safety standards, directly impacting project timelines and cost management. Ultimately, the Certified Diesel Mechanic contributes to the seamless functioning of heavy machinery essential for resource extraction activities across various sites in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certification as a Diesel Mechanic from an accredited institution or recognized certification body.
- Proven experience working with heavy diesel-powered equipment, preferably in oil and gas extraction environments.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical diagnostics.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate heavy equipment and transport vehicles on-site.
- Experience with computerized diagnostic tools and software specific to diesel engines.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance standards in the oil and gas industry.
- Previous experience working in remote or rugged field locations.
- Additional certifications related to welding, hydraulics, or electrical systems.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance services on diesel trucks, trailers, and equipment.
- Conduct inspections and identify mechanical issues before they become major repairs.
- Perform DOT inspections and ensure equipment meets all safety regulations.
- Complete work orders accurately and maintain maintenance records.
- Use diagnostic software and computerized equipment to identify issues.
- Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Respond to emergency roadside or on-call repairs as needed.
- Collaborate with drivers and management to minimize equipment downtime.
- Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, drivetrain, brake, suspension, steering, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot engine performance and aftertreatment systems.
Skills:
The required skills enable the mechanic to accurately diagnose and repair complex diesel engine issues, ensuring equipment reliability and safety. Proficiency in reading technical documentation and using diagnostic tools allows for efficient troubleshooting and maintenance.
