Job Description

As a Billing Specialist, you'll play an essential role in supporting our integrated healthcare services by ensuring timely, accurate billing and reimbursement for medical, dental, and behavioral health services. Your work helps sustain the financial health of our programs so we can continue providing high-quality care to the communities we serve.

  • Location: JBJ Soul Homes, 1415 Fairmount Ave. Phila, PA 19130
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday l Full-Time
  • Compensation: $21.65-$25.46/hr, based on experience.
  • Hybrid Work: Eligible for up to three (3) remote workdays per week, based on business needs and successful completion of the introductory period.
What You'll Do Process & Submit Claims
  • Prepare, scrub, and submit medical, dental, and behavioral health claims.
  • Work within queues to monitor claim status and resolve claim edits ensuring timely reimbursement.
  • Generate and submit electronic claim files through clearinghouses.
Resolve Billing Issues & Post Payments
  • Investigate and resolve claim denials, rejections, and billing discrepancies.
  • Monitor payer responses and follow up on outstanding claims.
  • Collaborate with front desk staff and other departments to resolve billing-related issues.
  • Post payments and maintain accurate billing records.
Support Revenue Cycle Operations
  • Utilize electronic health record, practice management system (eClinicalWorks), payer portals, and clearinghouse systems to support daily billing activities.
  • Assist with claim tracking, reporting, and revenue cycle documentation, while maintaining productivity goals.
  • Support annual audits, HRSA audits, and other compliance activities.
  • Perform additional billing and administrative responsibilities as assigned.
What You'll Need Education
  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent healthcare billing experience.
Experience
  • At least three (3) years of healthcare billing experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of billing processes and insurance claims.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional phone etiquette and customer service skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including general navigation, reading/interpreting data, and creating charts and pivot tables.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
What You May Bring

While not required, the following qualifications may help you succeed in this role:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW) or another electronic health record/practice management system.
  • Experience with dental billing.
  • Medical billing or coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA.
  • Knowledge of Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) billing and revenue cycle processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
