About the Role
The Branch Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and success of the branch within the Retail Banking Department. Reporting directly to the Branch President, Regional President, or Retail Banking Manager, this role oversees branch operations, sales, customer service, employee development, and community engagement. The Branch Manager contributes to SSB&T’s success by driving deposit and loan growth, ensuring operational excellence, managing risk, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. The position works closely with Retail Banking, Lending, Operations, Compliance, and other departments to achieve the Bank’s strategic objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
- Champion Enterprise Values: Demonstrate and promote SSB&T’s core values in all leadership activities, customer interactions, and business decisions.
- Lead the overall daily operations, sales, service, and performance of the branch.
- Develop and execute strategies to achieve branch growth, profitability, and customer relationship goals.
- Build and maintain strong customer and community relationships to generate new business opportunities.
- Manage branch staffing, scheduling, employee performance, coaching, and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with Bank policies, procedures, operational controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee branch sales activities, customer service standards, and relationship management efforts.
- Monitor branch financial performance, production goals, and operational metrics.
- Resolve complex customer issues and support retention of key customer relationships.
- Partner with Lending, Treasury Management, Retail Banking, and other business lines to identify cross-sell opportunities.
- Conduct branch meetings, training, and performance reviews.
- Support community involvement, networking, and business development activities representing the Bank.
- Maintain branch security, risk management practices, and audit readiness.
Management Responsibility: Directly supervises approximately 5–20 branch employees, depending on branch size and organizational structure.

- Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
- Community/ volunteer involvement
- Focus-intensive position requiring extended periods of sitting and digital navigation.
- Occasional walking, standing, and use of office equipment.
- Must possess close visual acuity and clear speech for verbal communication.
Location & Travel
- Johnson City Branch
- Travel may be necessary depending on business needs
Candidate Requirements
- Ability to adapt to growing business needs and structural changes
- High school diploma or GED (for teller and entry-level positions); bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field for professional roles
- Relevant licenses where required by law or regulation
- Familiarity with applicable banking regulations
- Attention to detail
- Proficiency with standard office software and ability to learn core banking platforms
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and any required pre-employment screening (drug testing, fingerprinting for FDIC-insured institutions)
- Other requirements as assigned
Candidate Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Banking, Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5–8 years of banking experience, including 3–5 years in branch management, retail banking leadership, or business development roles.
- Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience managing teams of 5 or more employees.
- Strong knowledge of retail banking products, deposit services, consumer lending, and branch operations.
- Proven record of achieving sales, business development, and relationship management goals.
- Strong understanding of banking regulations, operational controls, and risk management practices.
- Experience managing branch profitability, budgets, performance metrics, and employee development.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
- Strong communication, customer service, and community relationship-building abilities.
- Prior community banking experience preferred, with a commitment to customer service, operational excellence, business growth, and SSB&T’s core values.
