The Sterile Processing Technician Clinical Hours Program provides structured, supervised clinical training for newly graduated or provisionally certified Sterile Processing Technicians who must complete 400 hours of hands-on clinical experience to fulfill certification requirements and demonstrate competency in the safe processing of reusable medical devices.
During the 12-week clinical training program, participants are per diem employees who expected to adhere to all departmental rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and established work practices. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments, medical devices, endoscopes, and sterile supplies while maintaining compliance with applicable infection prevention and patient safety standards
Participants of the program will:
- Complete a minimum of 400 supervised clinical hours
- Demonstrate clinical competency in all areas of sterile processing and endoscopy
- Understand infection prevention principles
- Process instrumentation according to manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU)
- Meet departmental productivity and quality expectations
Minimum Qualifications
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Completion of a sterile processing course required
- Experience
- none required
- Licensure and/or Certification
- Certification (HSPA or CBSPD) will become required within 6 months of completion of program.
- Skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in groups.
- Attention to detail; proven ability to follow instructions.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Computer skills required.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
