Role Summary

The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the property-level and corporate accounting functions of Highline Real Estate Partners. This role is responsible for executing accurate, timely financial close processes across a multi-property portfolio, preparing and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations, and supporting internal controls in accordance with GAAP. The Senior Accountant works in close partnership with the Corporate Controller and cross-functional teams — including Asset Management, Property Operations, and Payroll — to ensure financial accuracy, operational transparency, and process consistency at scale. This position requires a high degree of ownership, analytical rigor, and the ability to operate independently within a fast-growing, real estate-focused organization.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

Financial Close & Accounting Operations

  • Execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process with accuracy and timeliness across assigned entities and properties.
  • Prepare and record manual journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, prepaids, and recurring allocations.
  • Support the monthly consolidation of Highline Real Estate’s multi-entity financials across the storage, industrial, and hospitality portfolios, including intercompany eliminations, equity roll-forwards, and consolidated balance sheet and income statement preparation in Sage Intacct.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and chart of accounts accuracy across multiple properties and legal entities.
  • Support the establishment and adherence to accounting policies and procedures that promote consistency, compliance, and scalability.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual financial statement preparation and support external audit deliverables.
  • Assist with cash flow management and treasury-related activities
  • Prepare and distribute OpCo-level financial reporting packages, ensuring property-level results are accurately summarized and reconciled to the Highline Real Estate consolidated ledger for review by the Controller and CFO.

Property-Level Accounting & Reporting

  • Perform property-level expense coding and ensure accurate allocation of costs to the appropriate assets, entities, or departments.
  • Prepare and deliver property-level financial reports on a monthly basis; identify and communicate variances to the Controller and Asset Management team.
  • Conduct substantive analytical review of facility-level financial statements to develop expertise in property operations and financial performance.
  • Proactively communicate monthly financial results to facility and field leadership, providing context and answering questions as needed.
  • Collaborate with Property Operations and Asset Management to ensure financial accuracy, resolve coding discrepancies, and maintain reporting transparency.
  • Support the review and approval of property-level reconciliations and financial reports as directed by the Controller.

Reconciliations, Analysis & Internal Controls

  • Prepare and maintain account reconciliations across balance sheet accounts, resolving open items timely and accurately.
  • Perform account analysis to identify trends, errors, or anomalies and escalate findings appropriately.
  • Support the internal control environment by adhering to documented procedures, flagging control gaps, and participating in process documentation efforts.
  • Review the work of junior accounting staff for appropriate documentation, coding accuracy, and compliance with accounting guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable GAAP standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.

Systems, Process Improvement & Scalability

  • Operate effectively within the company’s ERP and accounting systems; contribute to system integrations, data validation, and automation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve close efficiency, reporting accuracy, and process consistency; bring recommendations to the Controller.
  • Assist in driving team and company-wide accounting initiatives, including system implementations, workflow redesigns, and scalability projects.
  • Maintain accurate, organized workpapers and supporting documentation to support audit readiness and internal review.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Asset Management, Property Operations, HR/Payroll, and other functional partners.
  • Serve as a reliable accounting contact for assigned facilities, responding to financial inquiries with professionalism and accuracy.
  • Partner with the Controller and CFO on ad hoc analysis, special projects, and reporting as business needs evolve.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, high-accountability team culture consistent with Highline’s core values.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including exposure to multi-entity or multi-location environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience in real estate, private equity-backed, or similarly complex operating environments preferred.
  • Proficiency in ERP and accounting systems; advanced Excel capabilities required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage close processes, reconciliations, and reporting with a high degree of accuracy and ownership.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with acute attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with all levels of management and property-level personnel.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred
  • Demonstrates and reinforces Highline’s key principles of Leadership, Accountability, Excellence, Trust, Teamwork, and Communication.
