Position Summary
The Medical Assistant supports physicians and clinical staff in an office-based pain management and fluoroscopy setting. This position provides direct patient care, assists with fluoroscopy-guided procedures, prepares and maintains procedure rooms, performs clinical and administrative duties, and ensures compliance with infection-control, sterilization, radiation-safety, and patient-care protocols.
Essential Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
- Room and prepare patients for office visits and fluoroscopy-guided procedures.
- Obtain and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation, temperature, and weight as appropriate.
- Perform medication reconciliation and accurately document current medications, allergies, and relevant medical history.
- Review patient information and communicate pertinent findings or changes in condition to the physician or clinical team.
- Assist physicians during fluoroscopy-guided pain management procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning and preparation while maintaining patient comfort, dignity, and safety.
- Prepare procedure rooms, instruments, supplies, medications, and equipment before each procedure.
- Assist with sterile field setup and maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures and promptly report abnormal vital signs, adverse reactions, or changes in patient condition.
- Assist with post-procedure monitoring, recovery, discharge instructions, and patient education as directed by the provider.
- Perform general Medical Assistant duties, including patient intake, rooming, clinical documentation, and provider support.
Instrument Sterilization & Infection Control
- Clean, disinfect, prepare, and sterilize reusable instruments according to facility policies, manufacturer instructions, and applicable infection-control standards.
- Perform appropriate pre-cleaning and decontamination of instruments following procedures.
- Operate sterilization equipment as trained and authorized.
- Package, label, and store sterilized instruments appropriately.
- Monitor sterilization processes and maintain required sterilization records and documentation.
- Perform routine cleaning and disinfection of procedure rooms, treatment areas, equipment, and high-touch surfaces.
- Clean and disinfect examination and procedure areas between patients and at the end of each clinical day.
- Maintain appropriate supplies of disinfectants, PPE, sterile supplies, and other clinical materials.
- Follow OSHA, infection-control, bloodborne-pathogen, and workplace-safety procedures.
Inventory & Supply Management
- Monitor and maintain inventory of medical supplies, medications, sterile instruments, PPE, and procedure-related supplies.
- Perform routine inventory checks and notify management when supplies are low or require replacement.
- Check expiration dates and properly rotate supplies using first-expire, first-out practices.
- Remove expired or compromised supplies from clinical use.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and organizing medical and procedural supplies.
- Maintain an organized and adequately stocked procedure room and clinical work areas.
Daily Logs & Documentation
- Complete daily clinical, equipment, cleaning, sterilization, and safety logs accurately and timely.
- Maintain required sterilization and instrument-processing documentation.
- Document cleaning and disinfection of procedure rooms and equipment according to facility requirements.
- Record inventory checks, expiration-date checks, and other required daily quality-control activities.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Document procedures, vital signs, medication reconciliation, patient preparation, and post-procedure care as required.
- Ensure all required logs and documentation are completed before the end of each workday.
Fluoroscopy Procedure Support
- Assist the physician with fluoroscopy-guided pain management procedures in accordance with training, facility policies, and applicable regulations.
- Prepare and position patients for procedures.
- Prepare necessary procedural supplies and equipment.
- Assist with maintaining a sterile field.
- Follow radiation-safety protocols and appropriately use required radiation-protection equipment.
- Ensure the procedure room is properly cleaned, disinfected, restocked, and ready for the next patient.
- Assist with maintaining efficient patient flow throughout the procedure schedule.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred or required based on applicable state and facility requirements.
- Previous experience in pain management, fluoroscopy, orthopedics, spine care, ambulatory surgery, or interventional procedures preferred.
- Knowledge of vital signs, medication reconciliation, infection control, sterilization, and basic clinical procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced procedural environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow written protocols and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Willingness to complete required fluoroscopy/radiation-safety and infection-control training.
Work Environment
This position is in an office-based pain management and fluoroscopy clinic. The Medical Assistant is expected to maintain a clean, organized, safe, and properly stocked clinical environment while providing compassionate patient care and supporting physicians during procedures. The position requires adherence to infection-control practices, sterilization procedures, radiation-safety requirements, accurate documentation, and daily clinical quality-control processes.
Requirements:Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant certification program preferred
- Prior experience in a clinical setting is a plus
- Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and EHR systems
