About the Role:
The Health and Safety Advisor in the agriculture sector plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for all employees and stakeholders. This position involves developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies tailored to the unique risks associated with agricultural operations. The advisor will conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and recommend effective mitigation strategies. They will also provide training and guidance to staff on best practices and regulatory requirements to foster a culture of safety. Ultimately, the role aims to minimize workplace incidents, promote well-being, and ensure compliance with Canadian health and safety legislation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Certification such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in health and safety advisory roles, preferably within the agriculture industry.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial health and safety regulations applicable to agriculture.
- Proven ability to conduct risk assessments and develop effective safety programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working directly on farms or agricultural operations.
- Additional certifications such as First Aid/CPR instructor or WHMIS trainer.
- Familiarity with environmental sustainability practices related to agriculture.
- Experience with incident investigation software and safety management systems.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive health and safety risk assessments specific to agricultural activities and environments.
- Develop, update, and enforce health and safety policies and procedures in line with federal and provincial regulations.
- Deliver training sessions and workshops to educate employees on safety protocols, emergency response, and hazard recognition.
- Investigate workplace incidents and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with management and workers to promote continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and compliance documentation.
- Stay current with changes in health and safety legislation and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
