Staff Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer based in United States.

This is a high-impact technical leadership opportunity for an experienced software engineer working across multiple agile teams and complex product initiatives.
You will shape technical direction, influence architecture, and help transform prioritized product roadmaps into scalable, reliable software solutions.
The role combines hands-on engineering with system design, code reviews, technical strategy, and cross-team collaboration.
You will work on distributed applications and modern cloud-native technologies, with a strong focus on security, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
A key part of the position is mentoring engineers and fostering engineering excellence across multiple teams.
You will partner closely with product managers and other stakeholders to prioritize work, remove delivery impediments, and achieve business outcomes.
This role is ideal for a senior technical leader who enjoys solving complex problems while remaining deeply engaged in software development.

Accountabilities:
  • Provide technical leadership and direction across multiple agile teams or projects responsible for delivering prioritized software product roadmaps.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain complex software systems, producing high-quality, maintainable code with strong test coverage.
  • Translate product requirements into robust technical designs for distributed applications that are modular, configurable, reusable, secure, compliant, scalable, and performant.
  • Lead architecture, design, and code reviews across multiple applications, ensuring adherence to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Lead multiple sprint teams within a product area, helping remove technical and delivery impediments and ensuring high-quality solutions are delivered from the product backlog.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to estimate effort, prioritize initiatives, plan delivery, and execute roadmap objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers across multiple teams, encouraging innovation, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
  • Drive technical strategy and vision across multiple teams while championing operational excellence, quality, observability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Apply DevSecOps practices and modern engineering approaches to improve development efficiency, reliability, and software quality.
  • Use analytics, experimentation, and engineering metrics to identify opportunities to improve system speed, scalability, and effectiveness.
  • Promote best practices throughout the software development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, and release.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a Master’s degree in Computer Science is preferred.
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience with modern technologies and complex software environments.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience leading multi-team engineering initiatives within distributed application environments.
  • Strong backend development experience, preferably using Java or Python.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS.
  • Experience overseeing the full software development lifecycle, including architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and release.
  • Proven experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across multiple teams.
  • Experience with generative AI is a plus.
  • Proficiency in one or more industry-standard programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, C++, or JavaScript.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, relational databases, NoSQL databases, and caching technologies.
  • Experience designing and working with APIs using modern protocols such as REST and gRPC.
  • Experience with messaging, data streaming, workflow, and integration technologies such as Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi, Amazon SQS, MS MQ, or Apache Camel.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture and experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working with major cloud platforms including AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and their application to improve engineering efficiency and security.
  • Proven ability to design and implement distributed systems that prioritize performance, scalability, security, reliability, usability, and maintainability.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a track record of developing innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and work effectively across functional areas.
  • Demonstrated leadership through mentoring, technical guidance, and the development of strong engineering practices.
  • Ability to champion operational excellence and drive technical strategy, architecture, and engineering vision across multiple teams.

  • Competitive base salary, with geographic ranges of approximately $82,773–$167,268, $91,970–$185,853, or $101,167–$204,439 depending on location.
