This role is accountable for the performance of the electrical engineering team against AOP targets, owning technical standards, critical design assumptions and documentation (including the BOD and Electrical Design Package), and driving high-quality, constructible, and compliant solutions. The Senior Electrical Engineering Manager provides day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and decision-making for the electrical engineering team while partnering closely with Preconstruction, Design Management, Performance Engineering, HV/Substation, Procurement, Quality, Commissioning, and Operations to reduce risk and deliver safe, reliable, and high-performing plants at scale.
This is a fulltime role with periodic travel to project sites and partner offices across the continental U.S.

- Lead, develop, and coach the electrical engineering team (including HV/substation, protection & control, NERC compliance, and PV/BESS design), setting clear expectations, feedback rhythms, and growth paths.
- Support team staffing and technical ownership across pursuits and projects, ensuring each specialized scope (HV/substation, P&C, NERC, PV/BESS) has appropriate leadership and coverage from early design through COD.
- Serve as the accountable senior technical decision-maker for the overall electrical scope, including design approach, standards, major design changes, and key exceptions across all electrical disciplines.
- Own and maintain BOD frameworks and other core electrical standards and ensure they are applied consistently and aligned with Owner, EOR, utility, and NERC/interconnection requirements.
- Oversee power system studies, NERC/IBR-driven analyses, and DC/AC optimization performed by the team and EORs, validating assumptions and ensuring results drive design, procurement, and construction decisions.
- Establish, update, and enforce electrical design and QA/QC checklists, templates, and lessons learned (covering PV/BESS, HV/substation, P&C and NERC scopes) so designs are constructible, compliant, and meet McCarthy quality expectations.
- Identify major electrical risks and tradeoffs at both project and portfolio levelsincluding NERC compliance, protection schemes, and grid-integration risksrecommend mitigations, and ensure they are captured in pursuits, budgets, risk registers, and quality plans.
- Coordinate closely with Preconstruction, Design Management, Performance Engineering, HV/Substation, Protection & Control, NERC Compliance, Procurement, Quality, Commissioning, and Operations so scope, interfaces, and handoffs are clear.
- Represent McCarthy as the senior electrical counterpart to Owners, utilities, ISOs/RTOs, EORs, and key vendors on topics spanning PV/BESS design, HV/substation, P&C, and NERC, and translate AOP and business priorities into concrete team goals and KPIs.

- Substantial relevant electrical engineering experience in utility-scale PV, BESS, and/or HV/substation work.
- Experience leading engineers and/or engineering teams in a design-build/EPC or similar environment.
- Strong experience producing and reviewing construction-quality electrical design packages (one-lines, three-lines, schematics, grounding, cable schedules, equipment specs).
- Solid working knowledge of MV/HV collection and substations, protection and control, grounding/lightning, and PV/BESS layouts and integration.
- Deep familiarity with NEC, NESC, IEEE/ANSI, UL, NFPA and typical utility interconnection requirements; exposure to NERC expectations.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination with construction, field, quality, commissioning, and external partners.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel periodically to project sites, vendor facilities, and McCarthy offices.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering, or ability and intent to obtain.
- Experience in a manager or technical lead role overseeing a portfolio of utility-scale renewable or T&D projects.
- Proficiency with power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, CYMCAP, SKM, PSCAD or similar).
- Experience developing and standardizing design tools, templates, and training across multiple projects.
- Demonstrated industry engagement (e.g., standards work, technical presentations, working groups).
