What You’ll Do

The Controls Software Engineer II will contribute to the development, integration, validation, and support of Battery Management System (BMS) software for xEV and advanced battery applications. This role will support requirements definition, controls algorithm development, software implementation, calibration, testing, and system integration activities while collaborating with hardware, systems, validation, and customer engineering teams



Responsibilities (Including other duties as assigned)

  • Participate in requirements definition, software design, implementation, and testing activities for Battery Management System (BMS) software and controls functions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain battery control algorithms and features including State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), State of Power (SOP), charging control, fault detection, diagnostics, balancing, and battery safety functions.
  • Support calibration, tuning, and optimization of battery algorithms to meet product performance, reliability, and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, and validation engineers to ensure successful integration of BMS software into battery products and customer applications.
  • Support integration and validation of battery systems with customer equipment, industrial machines, government applications, and electric vehicle platforms.
  • Develop and execute software verification and validation plans including unit testing, integration testing, HIL testing, vehicle testing, and system-level testing.
  • Analyze test data and system performance to identify issues and support continuous improvement of controls algorithms and software features.
  • Perform software debugging, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation for issues identified during development, validation, manufacturing, and field operation.
  • Support customer issue investigations and provide technical assistance related to BMS software performance, calibration, diagnostics, and system integration.
  • Create and maintain software requirements, design documentation, test procedures, validation reports, and release documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and product requirements.
  • What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2-5 years of experience developing embedded software, controls software, or BMS software.
  • Experience with C/C++ software development for embedded systems.
  • Experience with software design, implementation, debugging, and testing.
  • Understanding of battery management systems, lithium-ion batteries, and battery system operation.
  • Familiarity with controls development methodologies and model-based design concepts.
  • Experience with software verification and validation activities.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive, xEV, off-highway vehicle, or industrial vehicle applications.
  • Experience developing battery algorithms including SOC, SOH, SOP, charging, balancing, diagnostics, and fault management.
  • Experience with calibration, tuning, and validation of controls algorithms.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and model-based development.
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing.
  • Familiarity with CAN, CAN Open, UDS, J1939, or related automotive communication protocols.
  • Experience integrating battery systems into electric vehicles, industrial machines, or mobile equipment.
  • Knowledge of automotive development processes and standards.
  • Experience supporting customer integration and field issue resolution.
  • Experience leveraging AI technologies and engineering productivity tools to improve software development, controls calibration, test automation, data analysis, root-cause investigation, and overall engineering efficiency.
