Description:

We are seeking a responsible and attentive individual to join our team as an Ice Monitor. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of skaters and maintaining a secure and enjoyable environment on the ice rink. Your primary focus will be on monitoring skaters, enforcing safety rules, providing assistance, and responding promptly to any emergencies or incidents that may arise.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the ice rink to ensure the safety of skaters, enforcing rules and regulations to prevent accidents and promote a safe skating environment.
  • Maintain a visible presence on the ice, actively observing skaters' behavior and identifying any potential hazards or risky activities.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to skaters of all ages, and experience level.
  • Respond promptly to any accidents, injuries, or incidents that occur on the ice, administering basic first aid as needed and summoning additional medical assistance when required.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor when interacting with skaters, addressing their questions, concerns, and providing excellent customer service.
  • Assist with skate rentals, ensuring proper fitting and safe usage of rental skates, and managing the inventory of available skates.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the ice rink and surrounding areas, identifying and promptly reporting any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Promote a positive and enjoyable atmosphere on the ice, engaging with skaters and encouraging good sportsmanship and respectful behavior.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge related to ice safety and customer services.

Expectations:

Team members are expected to promote a safe and enjoyable environment by skating with the flow of traffic, avoiding backwards skating, and keeping work areas tidy. As part of our ‘One Team, One Dream’ culture, we ask that cell phones and headphones not be used while working so that focus remains on safety, teamwork, and guest experience.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience in ice skating, ice hockey, or a similar role is preferred.
  • Strong skating skills and the ability to confidently navigate the ice.
  • Basic knowledge of ice skating safety rules and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with skaters of all ages and skill levels.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations, demonstrating quick thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to stand, walk, and skate for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as per the ice rink schedule.
  • A friendly and approachable demeanor, with a passion for providing exceptional customer service.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in cold temperatures and various weather conditions.

Work Environment

This position generally requires that work be performed at Wollman Rink, but attendance at events taking place at the rink or offsite, including on weekends and/or holidays, may be required.
