Job Description
Help Keep Our Bulk Hauling Operation Moving
Wind River Environmental is seeking an experienced Dispatch Representative with strong truckload dispatching and route-planning experience to support our bulk hauling operations in Douglasville, PA.
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | On-Site | 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM
Location: Douglasville, PA
Rate of Pay: $22.50 – $23.50 per hour
This isn't just a role where you'll build a schedule and send trucks on their way. Our Bulk Hauling operation depends on thoughtful planning, strong communication, and the ability to make smart decisions throughout the day as customer needs, driver availability, equipment capacity, timing, and road conditions change.
You'll be at the center of the operation - working closely with drivers, customers, branch teams, and leadership to keep trucks moving efficiently, maximize utilization, solve problems in real time, and deliver reliable service to our customers.
For someone who enjoys logistics, understands how the pieces of a transportation operation fit together, and takes pride in building a better plan, this is an opportunity to make a visible impact on the performance of the business.
What You'll Do
- Plan, route, and dispatch daily Bulk Hauling work based on customer requirements, driver availability, truck capacity, geography, service timing, and operational priorities.
- Build efficient routes that maximize truck utilization and support productive use of our drivers and equipment.
- Actively manage routes throughout the shift rather than simply handing off the initial schedule.
- Monitor route progress and make real-time adjustments as cancellations, new service requests, delays, equipment issues, traffic, weather, or other conditions affect the plan.
- Identify opportunities to add, remove, move, or re-sequence stops to improve efficiency and maintain customer commitments.
- Maintain ongoing communication with drivers in the field, providing route direction, schedule updates, and operational support throughout their shifts.
- Serve as a key communication link between drivers, customers, branch personnel, management, and Central Dispatch.
- Provide support to Central Dispatch during after-hours operations as needed, leveraging the later shift schedule to assist with dispatch coverage and broader operational needs.
- Coordinate solutions when fleet availability, customer access, scheduling conflicts, or unexpected operational issues put the original plan at risk.
- Communicate directly with customers regarding service timing, schedule changes, and other service-related needs.
- Manage urgent service needs and dispatch on-call resources when necessary.
- Build strong working relationships with drivers and customers, particularly when navigating last-minute changes or operational challenges.
- Use sound judgment to determine the best course of action when the original route or schedule is no longer workable.
- Look for opportunities to continuously improve routing, dispatch processes, truck utilization, and overall operational performance.
- Support special projects and additional operational needs as assigned.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who doesn't just enjoy dispatching - you enjoy figuring out the puzzle of logistics.
You understand that a strong route isn't simply a list of stops. It requires balancing customer expectations, driver workload, equipment capacity, geography, timing, and changing priorities to create the most effective plan possible.
Our ideal candidate brings:
- Previous experience in dispatch, transportation, route planning, logistics, trucking, or a similarly fast-moving operation.
- Strong understanding of routing, scheduling, and dispatch principles.
- The ability to evaluate multiple variables quickly and make confident, practical decisions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adjust when the original plan changes.
- A high level of organization and attention to detail while managing multiple priorities at once.
- The ability to remain calm and professional when schedules change and operational pressure increases.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with drivers, customers, coworkers, and leadership.
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of decisions without requiring constant direction.
- Comfort learning and working within computer-based routing, scheduling, dispatch, and operational systems.
- A continuous-improvement mindset and genuine interest in understanding how routing and dispatch decisions affect the broader operation.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least two years of route planning, dispatch, transportation, or logistics experience strongly preferred.
Why This Role Matters
Bulk Hauling is an operationally complex business. The decisions made in dispatch have a direct impact on how effectively we use our trucks, how productive our drivers can be, how reliably we serve our customers, and how well the overall operation performs.
We're looking for someone who wants that responsibility.
If you're the kind of dispatcher or planner who is always looking ahead, asking "Is there a better way to run this?", and takes satisfaction in turning a complicated day into an efficient operation, we'd like to talk with you.
