About This Position
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse and others, the Nursing Student Technician (NST) provides direct care to patients and families in a developmentally, culturally, and ethically appropriate manner. The NST contributes to the provision of high-quality, cost-effective health care through direct care of patients and in collaboration with other health team members. The NST ensures confidentiality of all patient information, always utilizes safe patient handling protocols prescribed by CMC and maintains communication with the RN of activities performed, observations, and status changes in the patient. Communication and a strong desire to meet the needs of individuals who are unable to so themselves. This role will contribute to a neat and clean patient centered environment and assist in providing high quality, compassionate, healthcare.
Examples of specific NST responsibilities include administering treatment and personal care procedures to patients. Tasks may also include, but not be limited to, meal tray preparation and feeding, recording intake and output, bathing, shaving, changing clothing, cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-making, assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination; provide such additional care as required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients. The NST will prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required and may escort or transport patients to various hospital locations. The NST will be responsible for administrative duties, which include but are not limited to; receiving, greeting and directing patients, visitors and hospital personnel, provide/resolve requests from patients and guest not needing to be referred to nursing staff, primary focus of communication of the unit, and answers phones promptly and refers request to appropriate nursing staff. Additional duties may include cleaning assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment as required.
Education:
- High school diploma required.
- Completion Nursing 220 required.
- Enrolled in Nursing 217 and 221 Courses required.
Experience:
- Previous experience as a Multi-Skilled Technician preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Basic Life Saving (BLS) Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
Other:
- Readiness to provide a school transcript to verify completion of and enrollment in required nursing courses.
