Pet Specialists of Austin (PSA) is looking for aLead Neurology Veterinary Technician to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You
The Lead Neurology Technician is responsible for directing the Neurology support staff in providing efficient and effective operational workflow. The lead technician is required to perform all the duties and responsibilities of an individual neurology technician. The lead technician's time should be managed between floor and administrative time, with 90% of their time on the floor and 10% of their time for administrative duties at designated times.
The Lead technician should be knowledgeable in a wide variety of areas and is able to train staff in these areas including client service, communication, clinical pathology, radiology, animal nursing care, anesthesia, pharmacology, among others. The lead technician is expected to uphold the PSA Way while maintaining professionalism. They are expected to work with, or under, the supervision of the DVMs, Floor Manager, and/or Hospital Administrator. They must be an independent worker who values being part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in meetings and collaborate with hospital leadership
- Address inefficiencies, training gaps, and staffing issues
- Manage tech/assistant schedules and ensure policy compliance
- Report equipment needs and supports overall hospital performance
- Complete required learning courses
- Conduct skill assessments and build tailored growth plans
- Provide regular coaching and promote a learning culture
- Model empathy, influence, and proactive engagement
- Support team wellbeing through personal connection and check-ins
- Act as Thrive Ambassador for hospital initiatives and compliance
- Perform exams, schedule appointments, and manage callbacks
- Communicate financial updates and get estimates approved
- Provide nursing care, emergency support, and isolation protocols
- Administer medications, IV/SQ fluids, and maintain accurate charts
- Keep clinical areas clean and operate lab equipment
- Follow safety protocols for radiology, CT, and MRI
- Assist with anesthesia plans, induction, and monitoring
- Prepare surgical sites and operate anesthetic equipment
- Respond to anesthetic emergencies and support neonatal resuscitation
- Clean and maintain surgical instruments and packs
- Participate in on-call surgical rotations
Key Qualifications:
- Licensed Veterinary Technician preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in specialty veterinary practice (neurology strongly preferred)
- Leadership or supervisory experience is a strong plus
- Strong technical skills in anesthesia, patient monitoring, and advanced diagnostic
- Animal husbandry includes walking, feeding, and medication administration.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Works well with a team and independently when assigned tasks.
- Able to handle multiple tasks at once and work well under pressure in an environment with continuously changing priorities.
