JOB TITLE: Electrical Design Engineer I

REPORTS TO: Design Engineering Manager

JOB STATUS: Full Time

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

Electrical Design Engineers contribute to the successful completion of projects by utilizing design experience to accomplish technical engineering task work and deliver customer solutions. The Electrical Design Engineer Level 1 should rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to plan and accomplish goals. This role works under immediate supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in directing, coordinating and exercising functional authority for design, planning, organization, control, integration and completion of engineering projects within an assignment.
  • Assist in analyzing engineering schematics, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors.
  • Produce accurate and thoroughly self-verified electrical device and panel layouts; motor, control, I/O schematics and bill of materials.
  • Assist in reviewing design for compliance with engineering specs, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Provide project support to the field engineers, project managers, purchasing and panel fabricators.
  • Use computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs.
  • Communicate with the Supervisor regarding task completion status.
  • Design and develop layouts for electrical circuits or systems for power distribution. Assists in the production of detailed schematics.
  • Interface with customers on a limited basis for support to internal and external customers such as installation and commissioning support to design modifications needed to support project needs.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

  • Sitting for prolonged periods of time when in office
  • Standing and walking for prolonged periods of time when at a jobsite
  • Climbing may be required when working at a jobsite
  • Repetitive typing/data entry
  • Lifting up to 10 pounds

WORK SCHEDULE:
This works in office when not traveling to job site. General office hours are M-F, 7a-4p or 8a-5p. Working hours will vary when working at a job site to meet the project requirements as needed.

Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to travel up to customer facilities as needed and work non-business hours based on project and customer needs.
  • Has basic knowledge of electrical equipment and local building codes such as UL508a, NEC and NFPA 70e
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures as related to design
  • Ability to exercise a limited degree of creativity and latitude
  • Independent thinker and problem-solver
  • Self-starting instincts and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), attention to detail and good organizational skills

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree, or equivalent, in related area. Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Experience Required:
  • AutoCAD
  • Excel
  • Experience Preferred:
  • HMI graphics
  • PLC programming experience
  • Networking experience
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to obtain facility security clearance as needed
