Position Summary

Avail Staffing is urgently seeking a results-driven Industrial Engineer to support and lead technical initiatives across marine preservation, shipbuilding, and ship repair operations. This role blends engineering innovation with practical implementation, focusing on equipment optimization, process improvement, and environmental containment strategies. You will play a critical role in developing cutting-edge solutions to advance operational efficiency and sustainability.

Key ResponsibilitiesResearch & Development
  • Conduct research and lead implementation of new technologies and equipment for marine preservation and ship repair.

  • Analyze current workflows and develop improvements that enhance performance, reduce downtime, and control costs.

  • Design and document equipment setup procedures for repeatable, scalable implementation.

  • Optimize maintenance and equipment turnover strategies to reduce operational interruptions and expenses.

Engineering & Technical Support
  • Develop and review environmental containment strategies with mathematical modeling and structural analysis.

  • Analyze flow rates, equipment sizing, and temporary HVAC system design for shipboard preservation operations.

  • Evaluate forces on containment members and other structural elements to ensure safe and compliant designs.

  • Review and approve engineering plans, drawings, and specifications related to environmental equipment and mechanical systems.

Operational Responsibilities
  • Oversee and assist with proper setup of containment and mechanical equipment in field operations.

  • Design, test, and implement process improvements for environmental and industrial systems.

  • Provide detailed technical support to field teams, ensuring compliance with OSHA and environmental standards.

  • Create comprehensive technical documentation including standard operating procedures (SOPs), reports, and setup guides.

  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration with planning, production, and project teams to execute efficient project strategies.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or related Engineering field

  • EIT certification required (PE preferred or in progress)

Experience:

  • Experience in industrial or shipyard environments preferred

  • Familiarity with ventilation systems, dust collection, HVAC design, and environmental containment systems

  • Background in technical R&D, process design, or equipment optimization is a strong plus

Skills:

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills, including flow rate and structural calculations

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and engineering modeling software

  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or in teams

  • Deep understanding of OSHA, environmental, and safety standards

Working Conditions
  • Exposure to varying environmental conditions including heat, noise, dust, confined spaces, and high elevations

  • Use of PPE required; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs

  • May require standing, walking, climbing, or crouching in shipyard or construction environments

  • Background check required for shipyard access
