  • PART I - General Job / Performance Information
  • Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or its equivalent (GED) is required. Three years experience in performing light and heavy vehicular service and repair work. Three years of current experience in performing work on emergency vehicles.
  • Environmental / Working Conditions
    • The position involves considerable physical activity with exposure to safety hazards normally associated with repair work on automobiles and heavy equipment. While most work is done inside a shop, on occasion the employee makes repairs to equipment in the field at the scene of an emegency, which may involve exposure to hazardous conditions.
  • Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
    • The EMS fleet mechanic must respond in a helpful and considerate manner to the needs of patients, family members, other health care providers, public safety and law enforcement personnel, EMS students, volunteers, and fellow employees.
  • Job Description
    • Performs and directs routine servicing of Lubbock County Hospital District Fleet vehicles and mechanical equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on all Lubbock EMS vehicles, including oil changes, air filters, brakes, tires, and emergency lights. Inventories and order supplies used for preventative maintenance. Makes sure that all parts are in date, and in good working order. Performs routine maintenance on EMS cots and holder. Coordinates service issues with the local companies in a timely manner. Keeps a record of all vehicles maintenance, cost, and mileage. Respond to road service calls and takes call every other weekend.
  • Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
    • Class C driving permit by the Texas Department of Public Safety with no driving while intoxicated (DWI) convictions or any other factors, which would preclude insurability, is required.
  • Physical Capabilities
    • Frequently exerts a medium amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull and move objects. Frequently work involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling. Occasionally work involves sitting, climbing stairs, climbing ladders and crawling.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • High degree of knowledge of various types of vehicles diagnostic testing and analysis equipment is essential. The ability to read and comprehend technical manuals is essential. Familiar with fleet operations is preferred. Requires effective verbal and written communications skills, and the ability to interact with tact and courtesy and maintain a professional demeanor.Knowledge of the methods, equipment, and materials used in sevicing emergency vehicles is essential.
