Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $23.42 - $24.89 per hour, depending on skills and qualifications.

Work Schedule: Generally, works up to 28 hours per week; ability to work occasional evenings and weekends; schedule may vary

NATURE OF WORK

As a member of the Culture & Engagement Division of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture, individuals in this position perform work in a team-based environment supporting the Division’s mission and vision along with the goals, philosophies, and initiatives of the Culture & Engagement Manager.
As a member of the Town of Windsor Museums team, individuals in this position make art, culture, history, and nature accessible to the public through innovative and engaging programs. The Museum Education Specialist supports all aspects of the development and facilitation of museum programming, events, and informal education projects. The Town of Windsor Museums comprise the Windsor History Museum, the Art & Heritage Center, The Eaton House, and the Historic Halfway Homestead.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Individuals work under the direct supervision of the Museum Education Coordinator to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.

SUPERVISION/LEADERSHIP EXERCISED
No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The individual in the Recreation Specialist - Museum Education role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles, and requirements as determined by the town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulations, and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:
  • Execute and support the planning, preparation, and facilitation of museum education programs, including early childhood, family, youth, adult programs, camps, tours, and field trips, ensuring engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences.
  • Assist with program logistics and execution, including material preparation, space setup, coordination during program delivery, and post-program cleanup and evaluation.
  • Conduct outreach to schools, nonprofit organizations, and community groups to support program participation and scheduling, in coordination with the Museum Education Coordinator.
  • Inventory, organize, and order education supplies as needed to support program delivery and maintain readiness for scheduled programs.
  • Assist with museum operations during open hours, including visitor engagement, basic inquiries, and visitor tracking, as assigned.
  • Support the planning and execution of museum special events by assisting with education-related activities, materials, and on-site program delivery.
  • Assist with museum projects related to education and interpretation, including tour development, exhibit installation support, planning efforts, and research requests, as directed.
  • Contribute to program promotion by assisting with marketing content, including newsletter items and social media posts related to museum education programs.
OTHER DUTIES
Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:
  • Perform research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc.
  • May be involved in special projects that are directly or indirectly related to essential job functions.
  • Completes educational and certification opportunities to remain abreast of current methods and procedures in museum education and interpretation.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree, recent graduate or currently pursuing one in a related field (museum studies, public history, history, education, etc.) preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year of previous teaching experience in a formal or informal environment
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one upon hire, that meets the Town of Windsor’s standards
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within three (3) months of employment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, and timely manner both verbally and written when dealing with town employees, citizens, customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to interact with all age groups. This may include instruction, communication of rules and regulations, and enforcing policies.
  • Manage time efficiently in order to organize and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving facility guests with patience, good judgment, and with diplomacy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
EQUIPMENT & MATERIALS USED
Materials and equipment used include, but may not be limited to the following:
  1. Equipment: Position requires use of various equipment including, computers/tablets/other digital equipment, calculators, copiers, printers, fax machines, multi-line telephone systems.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The physical activities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, feeling, talking, sitting, hearing, and repetitive motions.

The physical requirements of this position are considered Medium Work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

The employee may be subject to the following environmental conditions: inside, such as an office setting; outside, with little to no effective protection from weather; subject to noise.
