Job Description

Position Description: This position works with the head athletic trainer in providing comprehensive athletic training services in an intercollegiate setting. Responsibilities include the prevention, recognition, evaluation, initial management, medical referral, and rehabilitation of injuries and illness encountered in the athletic environment; along with the education and supervision of athletic training students. This position also serves as a Campus Safety Authority as required by federal law in the Clery Act. Position Responsibilities: 10.00% - Appropriately maintain the athletic training facility and coordinate the daily activities required for injury prevention and management. 10.00% - Provide accurate injury/illness recognition, evaluation, management, and medical referral following established athletic training protocols. 10.00% - Develop and oversee activities required for returning an injured athlete to activity. 10.00% - Maintain accurate injury/illness reports and injury management records, both electronically & written. 5.00% - Serve as a liaison between physicians, student athletes, coaches, and parents regarding injury/illness prevention, recognition, management / referral, and return to activity; along with medical claim submission. 5.00% - Attend required competitive events, both at home and on the road. 5.00% - Oversee the completion of pre-season physical examinations and the collection of associated forms, both electronically and written. 5.00% - Develop/Oversee individualized pre-existing injury intervention programs; Provide individualized nutrition counseling; and, Work with coaches in developing team specific injury prevention activities. 5.00% - Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of department objections and policies / procedures. 5.00% - Oversee the operation of Athletic Training System (medical records software) to include student specific pre-participation forms, personal insurance information, injury/illness records, etc. 5.00% - Complete the annual spring inventory of athletic training supplies and make recommendations for the fall athletic training supplies order. 5.00% - Develop and organize successful fund raising activities. 5.00% - Participate in the recruitment, education, and supervision of the athletic training student staff. Plan and implement the annual athletic training student orientation camp. 5.00% - Arrange for, and supervise, athletic training student coverage in the athletic training room, at practice sessions, and competitive events. Arrange for community service activities appropriate for athletic training students. 5.00% - Supervise student athletic trainer success in the classroom and establish a structured student success plan. 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned. Expectations: Adhere the National Athletic Trainers’ Association’s Code of Ethics and follow the guidelines as established in the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts’ Athletic Training practice act. Familiarity with American Medical Association guidelines for injury recognition and management Establish and maintain a viable relationship with student athletic trainers, student-athletes, coaches, instructors, support staff, and administration. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while representing the sports medicine department, the athletic department, and the college. Adhere to an established schedule, giving consideration to athletic training room activities, instructional assignments, event schedules, and other responsibilities. Teach courses appropriate to athletic training and earned degree. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Two years to five years of similar or related experience. Education - A Bachelor's degree. Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary. Other Skills - A bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related major required; a master’s degree in a related field preferred. Successful completion of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification exam required. Licensure, or eligibility to apply, with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts required. Professional Rescuer CPR required; CPR/First Aid Instructor preferred. Computer proficiency and familiarity with word processing required; Microsoft Office preferred. Physical Requirements: Job requires repetitive lifting of light weight objects with frequent bending and stooping, or repetitively lift average weight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds). Regular exposure to unfavorable conditions such as weather conditions, or confined, noisy, or dirty locations. Wages/Other:

The salary range for this position is $48,306.60 to $53,948.81.

Barton Community College seeks a full-time, replacement Assistant Athletic Trainer. This 12-month position is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in the administration and management of an athletic training program covering 22 sports programs. Primary responsibilities include the prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries and illnesses, and other duties as assigned by the head athletic trainer. This position requires the ability to function professionally in a highly competitive environment.
