Counselor Help People at Crouse Hospital – Syracuse, New York

The Counselor position mainly entails meeting with clients for clinical assessment, short-term counseling and to offer referrals for ongoing or specialized care. The counselor will work with individuals, couples, and some family members. This role also involves answering client calls, scheduling appointments, keeping case notes, following referrals, participating in maintaining a community resource directory and assisting with various program initiatives. The position may entail some local travel to accommodate the needs of the HelpPeople accounts, and satellite offices. In addition, the ideal candidate will participate in and demonstrate skill with facilitating training on wellness topics and supervisory skills. The Counselor works under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor.

Schedule: Part Time, 26 hours/week. This position will have on-call hours.

MINIMUM EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE

Required: A license in an appropriate mental health or behavioral science such as an LCSW, LMHC or LMFT.

Preferred: Experience working with alcohol and drug issues.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Demonstrates thorough assessment skills and data collection. Demonstrates ability to construct treatment plans addressing presenting problems that utilize theory-based interventions. Experience in providing short term therapeutic interventions. Demonstrates accurate documentation of assessments, intervention, outcome and follow-up. Some experience with utilizing an electronic medical record preferred.
