About This Position
Description:
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and for supervising the day-to-day nursing activities performed by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). The RN ensures that care is delivered in accordance with physician orders, care plans, facility policies, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Oversight
- Assess residents’ physical and psychosocial status and develop, implement, and update individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders.
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
- Provide wound care, IV therapy, catheter care, and other skilled nursing procedures as required.
- Ensure proper documentation of assessments, treatments, and resident progress.
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, support, and delegate tasks to LPNs and CNAs.
- Provide clinical guidance and ensure staff follow policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Participate in shift reports, staff meetings, and interdisciplinary care planning.
Admissions & Care Coordination
- Participate in resident admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Communicate with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members regarding resident care.
- Ensure continuity of care and accurate handoff communication.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and facility regulations (including infection control and resident rights).
- Participate in quality improvement activities and audits.
- Report incidents, accidents, and changes in resident condition appropriately.
Resident Advocacy
- Promote resident dignity, privacy, and rights at all times.
- Provide emotional support to residents and families.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience preferred (skilled nursing or long-term care experience strongly preferred).
- Knowledge of geriatric nursing care and regulatory requirements.
- Strong clinical judgment, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift, transfer, and assist residents (up to 50+ lbs with assistance).
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the shift.
- Exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as required.
- Ability to handle the physical and emotional demands of resident care in a skilled nursing environment.
