Job Description
We are a leading fabricator of high-quality steel Power Delivery Structures for the electric utility industry. We take pride in precision, efficiency and craftsmanship across all operations. We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled CNC Laser Cutting Machine Operator to set up, operate, and maintain our computer numerical control (CNC) laser cutting machines. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality parts from various materials (e.g., metal, plastic, wood) according to engineering drawings and specifications while ensuring all safety and quality standards are met.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical diploma or certification in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field preferred.
• Additional training in blueprint reading, CAD/CAM, quality inspection, automation programming or mechanical systems is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS
• 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing or a related field, including 2 years operating CNC laser cutting machines (fiber laser preferred).
• Prior experience with laser cutting systems and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints and work orders required.
• ERP software experience preferred.
• Forklift or pallet jack operation experience a plus.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English – read, write, and speak) preferred.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, work instructions, and CAD drawings.
• Major knowledge of CNC programming (e.g., G-code) and CAD/CAM or nesting software.
• Strong understanding of laser machine setup parameters — including power, speed, and focus — for precise cutting.
• Skilled in using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Strong mathematical ability for layout accuracy, geometry, and process calculations.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced production environment.
• Reliable, dependable, self-motivated and capable of working independently or collaboratively within a team.
• Positive attitude and adaptability to evolving production requirements.
• Effective communication skills for coordination with supervisors, engineers, and peers.
• Flexibility to adapt to production demands and changing priorities.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set up CNC laser cutting machines by selecting and installing proper lenses, nozzles, and materials.
• Position sheet metal accurately and adjust parameters (power, speed, focus) to achieve optimal cutting precision and part quality.
• Load CNC programs and retrieve pre-programmed instructions from network databases.
• Modify existing or develop new robotic welding programs, 3D Modeling using manufacturer software (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, TEKLA, ZEMANS).
• Create, edit, and optimize cutting programs based on CAD files to ensure efficient material utilization and cutting speed.
• Monitor machine operations and detect deviations or malfunctions.
• Conduct in-process and final dimensional inspections using precision instruments to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance (cleaning optics, checking chillers and assist gases).
• Diagnose and resolve minor technical or mechanical issues to minimize production interruptions.
• Safely load and unload raw materials and finished products using forklifts or cranes as needed.
• Ensure all materials are stored, labeled, and handled in accordance with company standards.
• Follow all safety procedures, including the use of PPE and safe material-handling techniques.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workspace.
• Maintain accurate records of production output, maintenance performed, and quality inspections.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding production runs, schedules, and issues.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Full time shop exposure.
2. Extreme temperatures. (Sometimes due to season).
3. Perform work standing up for 8-10 hours per day and up to 7 days a week.
4. Good vision, hearing, smell and balance.
5. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
6. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel regularly as well as climb stairs and ladders.
SCHEDULED WORK HOURS AND TIMES
• Monday - Friday 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM. SATURDAYS as needed.
• Will require training at our Fort Worth Plant for a period of two months prior to starting at our Rhome, Texas facility.
