About This Position
POSITION OBJECTIVE/SUMMARY:The Building Maintenance Engineer is responsible for performing a variety of building maintenance duties which may include: repair, maintenance, alteration, carpentry, and masonry, electrical, painting, welding, plumbing, and light construction of facilities associated with Kedren. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:Previous experience in general building maintenance in a psychiatric healthcare environment required or a related environment is preferred. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, lift, and reach using required safety techniques. Must be organized and detail oriented. Good verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of management and associates while building strong relationships. Must have the ability to problem solve, meet deadlines and follow through on work assignments in a fast-paced environment. The ability to work overtime and/or additional days on special projects as needed.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTIONS:Perform semi-skilled craft related work in such areas as carpentry, electrical, masonry, painting, plumbing, sheet metal, and refrigeration in the maintenance, repair, and alteration of buildings, facilities, and equipment. Maintain and repair a variety of equipment, including heating/air conditioning, laundry, kitchen, medical water systems, pool, sewage disposal, low pressure boilers, and other facility related equipment. Perform minor welding; operates wood and metal working equipment, grounds maintenance equipment, tractors, trucks, and automobiles. May assist in planning of duties for resident workers in a vocational training program. May perform scheduling work and requisitioning of supplies and materials; maintains files and records and makes reports on work performed as required. Practice confidentiality in all client, employee, and management related matters. Assist in preserving Kedren’s mission, goals, and objectives; and help management in establishing its internal service delivery goals and objectives that are consistent with the organization’s public service mission statement. Participate in the fundraising activities of Kedren. Assist in other duties and special projects as assigned. Equipment Management – Assesses equipment performance, identifies improvement opportunities, implements performance improvement; schedules routine or preventative maintenance with vendors. Multi-tasking – Handles multiple projects or tasks simultaneously and creates linkages between all involved parties. Utilizes time management, setting priorities and managing ambiguity skills. Multi-Trade Ability – Understands and exhibits skills in repairs, maintenance and/or installations in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, painting, cleaning, AC/heating systems, etc. Thoroughness - Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy. Defines and organizes tasks, responsibilities, and priorities. Takes responsibility for timely completion. Safety – Works to comply with all safety regulations and promotes safety consciousness and well-being throughout the organization. Safety and Quality Improvement – Identifies situations that compromise safety, and participates in risk reduction and continuous quality improvement.
