Job Description

Position Overview:

The Director of Instruction (DOI) serves as the building administrator and instructional leader within their assigned school. This role is responsible for fostering a safe, rigorous, and inclusive learning environment that maximizes student outcomes for all learners. The DOI provides leadership and direction to building-level staff while collaborating with the schoolwide leadership team to drive student success.

As the primary administrator of the building, the DOI oversees instruction, teacher development, school climate and culture, personnel management, resource allocation, safety, and daily operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership
-Demonstrate a strong commitment to student achievement by providing transformative educational opportunities.
-Participate in schoolwide academic leadership meetings to support the development of outcome-driven goals.
-Collaborate with the K–12 leadership team to develop and implement policies, procedures, and initiatives aligned with student success.
-Continuously evaluate and improve school procedures to meet community needs.
-Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, Board of Education requirements, and school policies.
-Attend school board meetings as needed and present data-driven reports on progress, initiatives, and achievements.

Instructional Leadership and Teacher Development
-Model and support implementation of the school’s mission, values, and best practices.
-Lead and develop a high-performing team including student affairs, grade-level leads, content specialists, curriculum coordinators, ELD, and Special Education staff.
-Communicate clear, high expectations for student learning and growth.
-Establish building-level systems that support schoolwide goals and student outcomes.
-Conduct classroom walkthroughs, observations, and formal evaluations, providing timely and actionable feedback.
-Collaborate with curriculum coordinators to ensure access to high-quality, standards-based instruction.
-Implement and oversee effective assessment systems using schoolwide data.
-Support staff in using data to inform instruction and improve outcomes.
-Facilitate professional development, including coaching, mentoring, workshops, and training.
-Foster collaboration among staff to share best practices and promote continuous improvement.
-Stay informed on and promote innovative instructional practices.

Climate and Culture
-Create a rigorous, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes belonging and growth.
-Maintain open, respectful, and empathetic communication with students, families, and staff.
-Develop and implement family engagement initiatives to support student learning.
-Promote two-way communication with families to strengthen partnerships.
-Regularly assess school climate and implement improvements based on feedback.
-Respond to family concerns promptly and effectively.

Personnel Management
-Follow established hiring procedures and ensure staff meet certification and development requirements.
-Foster staff commitment to the school’s mission and goals.
-Provide necessary support and cultivate a culture of appreciation.
-Serve as the primary contact for staff concerns and lead conflict resolution.
-Maintain confidentiality regarding employee performance and records.

Resource Allocation
-Oversee budgeting, staffing, and instructional materials to support academic and operational goals.
-Collaborate with the financial team to develop and manage the annual budget.
-Allocate resources equitably to meet diverse student needs and close achievement gaps.
-Use data to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of resource allocation.

Safety and Operations
-Ensure safety and security through effective protocols and emergency procedures.
-Collaborate with operations and safety personnel to develop and maintain safety policies.
-Support maintenance of the school’s physical environment.
-Establish clear communication systems for all stakeholders.
-Address safety and operational concerns promptly to maintain a secure environment.

Other Responsibilities:
-Demonstrate servant leadership in service to students, staff, and the school community.
-Engage in self-reflection and seek feedback to improve leadership practices.
-Participate in required professional development and training.
-Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role.

Qualifications:
-Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a K–12 setting
-Current Pennsylvania Principal Certification (K–12)
-Prior educational leadership experience
