Job Description

Power System Modelling Engineer - Field Testing

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Power System Modelling Engineer – Field Testing in Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of advanced power system modelling, field engineering, and renewable energy integration. You will contribute directly to the validation and performance of large-scale generation assets, including wind, solar, and energy storage systems. Working within a highly specialized engineering environment, you will combine on-site testing with advanced simulation work to ensure compliance with industry reliability standards such as NERC. The position involves frequent collaboration with technical experts and clients, as well as hands-on field engagement across international industrial sites. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of power system models used in planning and real-time operations. This is a high-impact opportunity for an engineer who enjoys blending theory with real-world system behavior in mission-critical infrastructure.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will be responsible for validating power system models, conducting field testing at generation sites, and supporting advanced simulation studies. You will also contribute to technical reporting, project planning, and compliance with reliability standards.

  • Perform field testing and model validation for generation plants including wind, solar, and energy storage systems
  • Develop and execute unit-specific test plans based on technical documentation and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct on-site commissioning activities, including data acquisition, troubleshooting, and control system verification
  • Run power system simulations and prepare detailed engineering analysis reports
  • Review and provide peer feedback on technical studies and reports
  • Support preparation of technical proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as NERC and other reliability requirements
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, and client organizations
Requirements

The ideal candidate combines strong academic grounding in electrical engineering with hands-on experience in power systems, field testing, and simulation tools.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems
  • Eligible or registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia or other jurisdictions
  • 3+ years of experience in power system analysis, protection, control, or related research/industry work
  • Experience in field commissioning and testing of power plants (wind, solar, BESS, thermal)
  • Strong understanding of generator protection, control systems, and relay technologies (e.g., SEL, GE Multilin, Beckwith)
  • Familiarity with power system modeling and simulation tools (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, PSLF, DSATools) is an asset
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and develop structured testing methodologies
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to safety and quality
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary and client-facing environments
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel internationally for field assignments
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and expertise
  • Hybrid or remote work flexibility following initial evaluation period
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge power system technologies and renewable energy projects
  • Exposure to international field testing assignments and complex engineering systems
  • Professional development in advanced simulation, modelling, and field validation tools
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment
  • Career growth opportunities within a specialized power systems engineering domain
