About the role
Forterra is seeking a Maintenance & Facilities Technician to support the day-to-day operations of our workplace across multiple sites. This role is a hands-on position responsible for general repairs, facility projects, and operational coordination to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment.
You will partner closely with the Facility Manager to execute workplace initiatives and manage ongoing maintenance and facility needs. This role requires someone who is resourceful, dependable, and comfortable handling a wide variety of tasks—from routine repairs to project support and vendor coordination.
This is a highly dynamic role where priorities may shift, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset is essential to keeping operations running smoothly
What you'll do
- Perform day-to-day general maintenance and repairs, including minor plumbing, basic troubleshooting, and overall facility upkeep
- Support office relocations, moves, and space consolidations across multiple sites
- Execute facility-related projects, including workspace reconfigurations, improvements, and installations, while managing and resolving service desk tickets in a timely manner
- Enter, track, and follow up on procurement requests for materials, supplies, and services
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers, including scheduling, site access, and oversight of work performed
- Conduct multi-site visits and routine inspections to ensure operational efficiency and maintenance standards are met
- Assist with event setup and breakdown, including furniture arrangements, equipment setup, and room configurations
- Maintain organization of tools, equipment, storage areas, and inventory
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for on-site equipment and facility systems
- Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime
- Track and document maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and service history
- Monitor equipment performance and proactively identify and address potential issues before failures occur
- Coordinate with vendors for scheduled maintenance and specialized servicing as needed
- Maintain and update maintenance logs, checklists, and equipment records
- Support the Facility Manager with ad hoc operational tasks and ongoing workplace initiatives
- Take on additional responsibilities outside the core scope of the role as needed to support overall workplace operations
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, or similar hands-on roles
- Basic knowledge of general repairs (e.g., minor plumbing, assembly, troubleshooting)
- Familiarity with using service ticketing systems or work order platforms like service desk via co-pilot
- Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting, moving, setup/teardown)
- Basic computer skills for tracking work orders, procurement, and communication
- Availability to respond to occasional urgent or after/early-hours facility needs, if required
- Familiarity with Forklifts and scissor lifts
- Familiarity with electrical and HVAC systems, including basic troubleshooting and maintenance support; this role does not perform work requiring professional licensing and will coordinate with licensed vendors as needed
Preferred Qualifications

- OSHA 10 or 30 Certified
- Trade school or vocational training in the maintenance or related field
US Hourly Range
$36 - $38.50/hr
Location
Clarksburg, MD and Arlington, VA
The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra’s overall compensation package. In addition to base salary and equity, Forterra offers competitive benefits for full-time employees including:
